24" rims
tinking about putting 24's on my 99 4runner and i was wondering if any one else has done it, if yes could you post a link so i can see if it's worth spending the cash..

If you are going with anything more than a 17" rim, be prepared to shell out the $$$ on the tires.
In my opinion, anything more than an 18" rim looks excessive on these trucks. Are you going for looks or performance? If you're going for performance and handling, you might look into an 18" rim wrapped with a 285/60/18 tire. It's a 31.5" tire so it will fill the wheel well nicely if you aren't lifted. You could also go with a 265/60/18 tire which is about 30.5". If you lower the vehicle about an inch and install some Addco sway bars and Koenig shock, you're truck will handle like it's on rails.

I don't think anyone going for 24's has performance in mind... There aren't even race cars out there riding on 24's.
I wonder if the first one is supercharged or not... And the bullbar on the second one, whats the point? I saw a blinged out H2 the other day, too much chrome for him to dare risk a trail, or a gravel driveway, yet he had 4 auxillary lights, roof rack, and bull bar.
To each his own though, just be prepared when you hit a speed bump and those rims are toast. My friend's boyfriend had 3 rims bent, they were something like $800 a pieace, and now, $800 trash.

Geez, let the man do what he wants with his rig. People have different tastes. Not everyone takes their 4Runner off-roading. Maybe he wants to make it a show car.

1) 24`s defeat the purpose of a "suv"

That 5VZE will feel like a 3VZE (that's really slow if you've had your head up your ass while reading on this board) if it has 24" wheels on it.
I've have a Mischief DVD, and there's a new Landcruiser in there with 385/25/26 wheels, that's right 26" wheels
Shaq has 26" rims on his H2 (looks like crap if you ask me

If it's 4wd then sell it and buy a 2wd. It's a discrase to any vehicle that's 4wd to do that to it. I understand the whole, every man to his own, but it becomes a waste when people turn a fully capable 4wd vehicle in to a street queen.

You guys say your statements like they were delivered from God Himself. People can do whatever they want with whatever they want. I remember when Le was around with his tangerine orange 4Runner that you guys gave him respect for his decisions and all the hard work he put into that truck. Not only was it a street queen and a show car *gasp*, but it was also a 4wd at one time so he had the front axles removed *GASP* so that he could lower it further! *FAINT* BLASPHEMY!! This guy obviously posted here on an off-road forum because this is probably the best resource available on the net for information regarding 4Runners.
That said, I recall reading somewhere a while ago that 24"s can't be put on with out a lift of some type, be it a body lift or suspension lift. I bet you can't turn to full lock either with out sledgehammering the heck out of your wheel wells. I think Le said his cousin put on Le's old 22s onto his 3rd gen without any modifications.
Anything above 18s are going to be pretty heavy. I believe 22s can weigh around 60lbs a rim alone, without the tire. Add in the tires, and a set of these at each corner and you're looking at a lot of added unsprung weight. Mileage is going to go to h3ll, and your drivetrain is going to be stressed trying to get these wagonwheels moving from green lights and stopped at red ones. And depending on where you live, you have to change your style of driving and develop the eyes of a hawk for potholes. Slack off for a minute and you could be out $2-4K. My roommate has a Integra with 18s on low profile tires and when he hit a pothole, it not only bent the rim, but creased the sidewall of the tire, so he had to replace both. I personally wouldn't go larger than 20". Not too hard on the truck and wallet, and you have a much larger cushion to ride on to save you from those potholes. And the ride is much better.
