Use this link and fill in all the blanks that you feel that need to be filled and you should come up with all your answers.

You'll need to switch everything just about. Even if you were just going from a 22RE to a 3vze (3.0 liter V6) you'll need to swap out the engine, & tranny at least, etc. But then since you'll be swapping everything out you might want to go with a 3.4 V6 from the Tacoma. If saving $$$ was your main concern you might also want to throw the "switch trucks" to one with the V6 on your list. It's not like the 3.4 swap for 3.0 owners where you just need the engine, wiring harness, etc. It's the tranny too which makes it even more costly.

If I were you, I would consider the 2.7 swap in place of your 22RE 2.4. I'm told this swap is about as similar as guys who swap in the 3.4 in for the 3.0 as far as bolting things up is concerned. The 2.7 engine esssentially just a juiced up 22RE with a bit more compression and dual overhead cams. It has 150 HP @ 4800 RPM's and 177 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 RPM's which is similar to the performance of the 3vze 3.0 V6 (some feel it's just slightly less powerful than this V6, probably b/c of gearing, but also b/c the 3vze has a lower torque peak). Plus, many feel the 2.7 is one of Toyota's most reliable truck engines ever built, some even think better than the 22RE. The other good thing about the 2.7 is there IS a supercharger for it if you can find it which boosts it up to around similar performance to the 3.4 V6, and plus other mods will be easier to deal with. Headers, exhaust, etc, would all give the 2.7 (3RZFE) a bit more juice. I'd look that way personally.

dont do it

those 4's are a LOT better than the 6- i have had nothing but problems with mine- blew it 3 freakin times- and ive barley pushed it- in my opinion they are crap- the 4's run a hell of a lot better- if ur doing an engine swap ud be better off with an 8- anything but the 6
