22re problems

I know, I know, but I've searched for hours and couldn't find aything quite like my problem. My 85 22re has a stutter or hesitation in the low 2's RPM range when in 1st,2nd,and 3rd gear but once I'm in 4th or 5th the truck feels like its refusing to move forward between 2100 and 2400 RPM's. I'm I apply more than 1/3 throttle it surges forward for a split second then actually starts slowing down while I push the gas.It happens after about 5-10 minutes of driving after being cold. I can fix most everything else on my truck but I hate messing with engines because I have no clue where to start. I have searched all over this site, pirate4x4, and ttora. Sorry for such a long post. Just need help.

How old is the fuel filter? Is the timing set correctly (shorting the T & E connector)?

AFTER - the above is verified. I would swap out the AFM with a KNOWN good AFM.

Sounds like fuel filter to me. It will play all kinds of little tricks on you like that.

Thanks fellas, I'll check the fuel filter tomorrow. And about the AFM, This started about 3 months after I installed my downey intake kit. Could this have anything to with the AFM if the fuel filter doesn't fix it? Thanks
