22RE Idle problem

I have a 1990 22RE its having idle problems I think its this valve on the bottom of the intake plenum. Has anyone else had this problem know what this part is called or maybe have a part #.

Can you elaborate more on what kind of idle problems your having? Also exactly which valve you think is bad? That helps greatly.

It surges at idle and sometimes caues it to idle high making shifting a pain because it revs up when you push the clutch in. Someone told me its this part under the intake plenum at the front just behind the throtle bodie but was not sure what it was called auxillery air control valve maybe.

Are you talking about the air valve?
I didnt think the 90 model 22-re had one.

Yeah, it does, but youre 22-re intake should be the straight one and not angled by the t-body. If it is the straight one then you do not have it.

What years would make the difference say like mine was made early or latter in a year?

Is this the valve you're referring to?

This is the AS (Air Suction) Reed Valve. Btw, my truck is an 89 (22RE), and my intake is of the straight style. I believe the angled throat on the throttle body was on the earlier models.

i think its 94 and later that dont have the air check valve. its a little skinny black box with one electrical attatchment and 3 or 4 hose attatchments.

I would first check the throttle, make sure it is closing fully and not sticking partly open when you let off the gas. Then see if the dashpot is sticking or slow to let the throttle close, it is the spring loaded plunger under the throttle that acts like a shock absorber. If it's vent line or filter is clogged, it can close too slow and cause the problems you describe. If that is OK, check the TPS idle sense contact:

Make sure that the TPS is working and adjusted properly. Then see if you can properly adjust the idle speed, if it is too high, you can get into the ECU's fuel cut RPM (around 1200) which kicks in if idle speed exceeds that and/or if you hit the brakes at idle. IN those case the idle will cycle up and down and the ECU first cuts fuel then restores it to the engine.

No that does not look like it. Theres no hoses I can see attached to it looks like its held on with four screws.

Ok I'm on glue I looked today in the light its on the bottom of the throttle bodie and does have some hoses going to it. Its either the Air flow meter or air valve I'm not sure. Thanks for the info 4Crawler you got me pointed in the right dirrection. Anyone know if its one of these if its rebuildable?
