22RE Fuel Grade Recommendation
Ok, I'm a little curious as to what grade of fuel everyone uses in thier 22REs. I run 89 in mine. I'd like to know if anyone out there has tried a bunch of different octanes, and has an opinion on the cheapest octane you can use, without having to get out and push the truck.

Mine seems to run fine on 87. I ran quite a bit of 91 a year or two back because of pinging in the hot weather. It didn't help that and it didn't seem to run any better or worse IMO. Finally fixed the pinging for the most part with a better radiator. It will still do it once in a while when I'm trying to turn my 31's with 4.10 gears, at hwy speed, up an interchange ramp, with the A/C on, on a 112 degree Arizona afternoon. Guess I can live with that.

i use the cheap stuff. i do have a ticking noise though at cold starts or when climbing steep hills. it's either ping or the timing chain slapping against the cover. i just changed the chain so hopefully that's not it. i also have 33s with 4.10s, so that is something that the 4 banger may object to a little.
