After realizing that my 22re is just about to explode under the hood and rebuilding it is not going to be possible without buying a whole new/rebuilt motor and some other major parts i have decided that it is going to be swap time soon. I also need more HP badly. I drive way too much and haul too much stuff to stick with a stock 22re. I originally wanted to get a hopped up 22re from LCEnginering but i really cant justify that much money ~$5000. SOOOOOOOO...

I came across some write-ups on the supra swap. I think this would be the cheaper, more fun, and much more rewarding swap i could do. I do not want anything other than a toyota engine under my hood. Period!

From what I have read and found on ebay i could get a low milage 7mgte for just under $1000 which sounds pretty good to me. Also i beleive that it will bolt right to my w56 manual, and only minor mods are needed for the engine mounts. I will need an ecu and wiring harness which i am confident i can wire myself. But what other thngs are necessary? fuel pump, starter?, intercooler, air flow meter?, major custom exhaust work...etc.

Please let me know where i can research this further and any links to more write-ups would be greatly appreciated, thanks ahead. 300HP here i come!

Thanks for the link, i checked them all out inclding all the ones on the pirate site. Looks like soo much fun! most of em only took less thatn a week to do the install once they had all the parts acquired. And the spacer that moves the steering gear is a great way to make room for the A/C! Does my current compressor bolt right up to the block somewhere?

I'm also interested in this swap but my 22RE seams to be running fine at 305,000 kms.

A cheaper and less complicated swap would be the 7mge (n/a).

A custom/modified oilpan will be required if you wanna keep 4x4 and IFS.

Yeqah that is a great write up, according to hs tranny guide I only need a bellhousing from a non-turbo supra to mate it right to my w56 5spd

ok good, i thought i was getting teased cuz my post was sort of antsy and ambitous.

anyway, nice pics ncsu, where did you get the motor from, it looks very nice, clean, and well prepped. and did you actually get the motor in there without moving the tranny location and removing the radiator?

i took the radiator out to get the motor mounted in, but i think with electric fans it will go back in ok. Tranny is in the stock location

i got the motor from Japan Direct. They import all kinds of japanese engines with low mileage, they also ship anywhere so if you want ill pick one out for you and have them ship it. Its just across town from where i live. As you can see the motor was immaculate when they delivered it to my friends house to install it in the truck. BTW, motor was $1,000 delivered to my house so you can figure $1,100 or so shipped anywhere

did you use the same radiator you had before? and if so what fan did you use? An di think that fact that you did a SAS at the same time saved you some room. I dont know what to do about an oil pan when i do mine. anybody know what oil pan can make it in there above the diff?
