2004 Tacoma needs a new throttle body?
Hey all,
I'm in quite the bind right now. I am not a car guy (unfortunately). I am having problems with my 2004 Tacoma (4x4 V6 58k miles) where it will drive fine for a while, but then the check engine light will come on and I will basically lose my gas pedal. Turn off/on the engine and it may go 10 miles or 10 feet before it happens again. I took it to the dealer and they said the throttle body was stuck open. They cleaned it and drove it around with no problems. I go and pick it up that night and get about 2 miles down the road before it acts up again. Took it back to Toyota and now they are saying that the throttle body needs to be replaced (electrical issues) at a cost of about 1400 . I called another dealership for a price on a new throttle body and they are pretty salty... $1100 before tax. They have me over the barrel right now and I will probably just have to fork over the cash.
Have you guys ever heard of this happening before? The other dealership said a bad throttle body was very, very rare.
Thanks,
Tom
