2004 to replace my Y2K.........
This new 4runner is growing on me, and I`m thinking of making the sale of my Runner and get a 04runner. What do you guys think? Am I nuts?:pat:

I traded my '02 Sport 4x4 for an '03 Sport 4x4.
Completely different vehicle, no comparison. If you value comfort, engine power, refinement and more room, go for it.

I'm in the same boat as Sac State. I sold my 02 Sport for my 03 Sport. you can compare but the reality is it's not fair to either.
I am extremely happy with every aspect of the 4th. I'm convinced its the second or third best vehicle design Toyota has ever built (biased opinion).
I say if you wheel lightly and use it on the road most of the time, get an 03 or 04. If you seriously wheel it, stick with the 3rd or get a 4th and an FJ40 or 60 trail rig!
I do use my entensively offroad for work and play. It does perform very well in every aspect except clearance. Most people cringe when they have a new ride and it gets dented or scratched so they avoid those conditions as much as possible.
No biggie, I'll swap this one out for a 5th Gen when it arrives!!

It depends (there I go again). If it's a question of economics, then I'd say stay put. If it's emotional, then no question, the V-8 Sport returns the most bang-for-the-buck. That's also the only '03 model/engine combination that didn't have a price increase during '03, and only a token increase for '04.
One thing, though. Since you live in HI, an effective A/C might be important. IMHO, the 4th Gen A/C isn't up to the task on the hottest days (around here ~90+), but others might disagree. The new 'Runner really needs a separate rear A/C unit, not just a bleed-air conduit that reduces front circulation when it's opened. You'll have to get a GX for that...or maybe next year in the 'Runner?
