sorry to hear your new 4runner broke down

when you reply please give details on vehicle condition:

mileage/or km is fine.
what condition you were driving in (weather/road etc etc).
what gear you were in.

maybe some other obvious info too since any info will help us alot!

hope everything is okay!

Lance

This is good info to know if we were tying to diagnose a problem but it's a 2003 it'll goto the garage and be fixed under warranty. I think he was just reporting it.. Sucks it's brand new and broke... Not something I would want to go through after spending that much cash on a brand new vehicle

Sorry to hear about the problem, but like UKMyers already mentioned, at least it's covered under warranty! When the truck stopped moving did anything seem to lock up on you? Did it come to a grinding hault, or did the engine die and you were able to coast to a stop?
Anyway, best of luck getting back on the road soon!

If it was running fine after they warmed it up indoors, and its that cold there (-23*C = -9.4*F = friggin' cold!), then to me, it really sounds like it could simply have been water in your fuel. I used to carry pints of this stuff called "HEAT" with me (alcohol to evaporate the water out of the fuel lines)when I lived in the Upper Pennensula of Michigan, and add a bottle with every fill-up in the winter.

Been below 0 degrees F here many days in my 2003 4runner.
I havent had any issues yet, but only had the truck for about 2 weeks now.
I love it!

I've heard stories of automatic transmissions (not the new 4Runners) going into a "safe mode" that restricts speed to 25mph when they or the ECU has detected something it doesn't like.

I hate to say it but I think they don't build them as good as they used to. I read about the 3rd gen's problems like saftey recalls, leaky axles and weird idles and stuff. Now we start to hear about the 4th gen problems only 4 months after they come out.

Damn computers that control everything are too smart for their own good. I'm keeping my old junk forever. It suits me much better than the new junk.

I hope i'm not jinxing myself by saying this.

Hmm, strange. Throttle bodies are heated for that (and emission control) reasons. Although I'm not exactly sure how the new fly-by-wire system applies that in our trucks. Had you run through deep water in the days prior to the breakdown? Hope it stays together for you now.

My guess... always go back to the basics. I'll bet you got some gasoline w/ water in it. Dump 2 bottles of gas line anti-freeze in the tank.
If the dealership did nothing but warm it up and its fine.... water in the gas.
