Found it using the flashing yellow SEARCH link at the top of the page. Overall, it is pretty expensive and the benefit to cost ratio isn't very good. You could replace a broken CV a year and still be well under the cost of having manual hubs on a 3rd gen. The gas mileage factor was found to be a non issue, there is hardly a difference.

Yes, it can be done. It was easy for me since I bought Schaefers front end w/ manual hubs when he did his SAC. But there are other options.
1. Offroad Solutions offers a kit but is a bit spendy. 2. You can try and gather all the items like Steve did in his Junkyard Aisin Manual Hub swap 3. Find a manual hub Tacoma doing a SAC and buy his front end.

Thanks all.
I had previously read the info on the Downey and ORS conversion kits and had dismissed them because they seemed to be neccessary only if you were going to lift the front end. I am not going for any lift - I just want manual hubs. Do you still need one of these expensive kits for simply converting to manual hubs? Has there has been a change in the ADD system somewhere after the '95 that prevents an easy conversion to manual hubs? Thanks Jim |
