2001 Tacoma 4 cyl 5 spd 53K Miles


I'm having some problems with 3rd and 4th not completely/fully engaging. (Limited travel) So far, no grinding or jumping out of gear but I kind of wanted to get on this before it gets worse. I've read some of the posts on the forum regarding changing out the shifter bushing. My set-up does not have a spring-loaded collar that has been shown. Mine looks like it has a cross-pin going thru the top cover tower that holds everthing in. Is this pin supposed to be driven out to remove the shift lever? Anyone have any ideas on this?

*****Nevermind, I just saw where the collar, that has to be depressed and turned, is positioned in the "inside" of the tower. *****

Replaced the shifter cap and rubber seal/seat. The seal had separated and the rubber was crumbling into pieces. It corrected my problem and shifts like brand new again!!!!

Yea, as you saw that thing you thought was the cross pin is actually what holds the shifter cup in.
