2001 Dbl Cab Taco Frame replacement

With great apprehension, at about 10 AM my time, I took my truck to Brian Bemis Toyota in Dekalb, IL to have the frame checked. I figured I would be told that it either didn't need it (OK) or that for some reason it was not covered.

Having heard some of the problem others have, I mentioned the name specifically. Within 5 to 10 mins, the service manager called me over. In my mind I thought "here we go". what I heard was "Congratulations sir, you are the proud owner of a new frame, most of the suspension, brake lines and other parts I will have to get the list for". I figured the air bags I had installed while I decided to replace the rear springs or lift it would disqualify me. Or maybe the custom front and rear bumpers, however this appears to be a dealer that knows the Magnuson–Moss Act because he asked me why I had not LINE-X'd it (I am a LINE-X shop) and when I mentioned it was lucky I hadn't he said it would not have mattered, it would have still been covered.

He put me in a loaner. The bad news is that Toyota gives them around 62 hours to do the job and the frames take a bit to get, so he says I will probably be down about a month. They had at least 1 Tundra in there who's frame just came in and have been doing these a lot. In another thread I had seen horror stories about convincing the dealer. Maybe for some it would be worth the drive.

If I get it, I will list the components that they will replace under the warranty.

62 hours seems like way too long. My buddy at work had his back in a few days.

62 hours is less than 3 days....

Most of the time is waiting for the frame and not sure what alternate reality62 hours of book time relate to is 3 days. It is almost 8 days.

if their shop is open 12 hours/day it is 5+ days

Drive your loaner and be happy you got a new frame suspension etc.

The kits to do this replacement are several pallets full of parts, every nut bolt grommet gets replaced. You basically get a new truck from the frame down.

Oh, trust me. I am not complaining. I am in a 2008 Highlander right now however since I use the truck for work, they're getting me a Tundra as I need it.

I have a couple things I want done extra, however since I have their vehicles, 30 days plus does not seem unreasonable. Especially in light of some of the posts where they have had to go thru regional offices to get what took me 10 to 15 minutes.

Since we were going to coat the whole body in Line-X Xtra color match anyway, we're now working with them to try to get the body to spray when they have it off to try to minimize down time.

Toyota told me today, when they exchange my loaner (they sold it), that the frame is "in Transit". He said not to put too much faith in that as it has changed to "B.O." in the past, however hopes are high.

After they get it, they will call me to pick it up to LINE-X it while they get the body off and then it should be not to long after I get it back to them.

They are really making this painless, including picking up and dropping off loaners as necessary.
