2001 4Runner 4WD NOT engaging - need more suggestions

Hello everybody my 4WD is still not working.

If I click the AWD button on the transfer case lever the lights on the dash never stop blinking and AWD never fully engages.

If I shift into 4 lo or 4 hi, the lights blink and it still never fully engages.

I replaced the 4 sensors on the transfer case - 2 on the top, and 2 on the back.

I have seen A LOT of people fixing their problem by another switch the "front diff" switch, which I don't think I have because its a 2001.

Here is my front diff actuator:

Does anybody have any info for me or suggestions? I plan on running some power to the actuators tomorrow and seeing if they are the problem or not. If they are the problem can anybody tell me how much a new actuator runs?

Thank you.

I looked into a front diff actuator from camelback toyota and it was 250. Not sure about the transfer case actuator. I read somewhere that someone took one apart and repaired it.

Good luck

I will be testing them soon, we just got snow and I have no where to do it currently.

My 2002 4runner started the dreaded dash lights blinking during the last snowstorm. I was able to get it out 4wd by tapping on the transfer case activator with the truck up on jack stands. Today I checked both switches 84222(1) and 84222(2). The front one 84222-12010 was bad when I checked it with the multi-meter no continuity. I went to autozone and got duralast switch JA449. I changed it and all 4 tires went green and after 5 blinks 4wd disengaged. After cycling a second time it went in and out no blinking.

Are Switches normally open or closed?

I just fixed my 2001 4Runner with a similar issue. Instead of not being able to get the front end locked in 4wd, mine was locked and wouldn't come out.

After jacking up the front end, setting the parking brake and shifting the trans to N, I found that my transfer case actuator was stuck (not the front axle actuator as we all are led to believe from other forums). 10mins, an 8mm endwrench and a couple of manual turns of the actuator later everything works as it's supposed to. Turns out, the grease dried up and it got sticky. Best of all it didn't cost me a dime.
I would recommend putting some sort of grease in there. I just wasn't sure what type to use. It looked like white grease but it may have also had some dielectric properties. Also, I have a new weekly habit of putting it in 4hi at random intervals- once a week.
I guess it's true- if you don't use it you loose it.

Happy wheeling all
