2000 Tacoma Auto Tranny Problem....
My Dad has a 2000 Tacoma 4 cylinder with an automagic transmission. Weird problem- few weeks ago, as he was driving down the highway, he said that D was shifting into thin air (neutral) and he limped home in 2. Before I could look at it, he had it towed back to the dealer (has warranty).
We got it back, no initial problems. They replaced the entire transmission under warranty and were nice about it. Worked fine for about a week, then the same thing happened. My Dad is a Consumer Reports, light footed kind of guy- this truck has NOT been beaten on, taken anywhere off-road besides the side of the driveway, and/or lent out to anyone who may have beaten on it. It went back to the dealer again and they are scratching their heads.
I searched, found some talk about shift solenoids, but nothing specific. Anyone else have this problem?
