2000 DRL Relay

Does anyone have a pic of the D8 relay for the DRL for 2000??

I'm trying to disable my DRL and on one other forum they said to find the D8 relay to the right of the steering column near where your right shin would be and cut the green w/black stripe wire and ground it. I looked and cannot find this relay so if anyone has a pic or a better more precise location please post or email.

Thanks,

Paul

I don't know where the D8 relay is, but the TSB for disabling the DRL's says to cut the pin #2 wire on connector D8 and does NOT have you ground the wire. The ground is for the 2000 Avalons.

The way I disabled my DRL's was to disconnect the resistor pack found in the engine compartment. It's a finned, aluminum box bolted to the driver's side outer wall in the engine bay, right next to the battery. Just pull the harness out of it and Voila! no more DRL's.

Hope this helps.

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of that, would you Dr. Z? If it was that simple, I wonder why Toyota recommends the way described in the TSB? Since I have a 2000 SR5 V6 also, It sould work for me, too!

I'll take a look at that later this week and see if I can locate the box you mention. I just hope I don't fry anything...

Hi Rick,

I don't have a pic, sorry. But, it's really easy to locate the box. Just stand next to the truck a little forward of the LF Wheel, then look down into the engine bay next to the battery. You'll see the Resistor Pack hanging out there. I've completely removed mine from the truck. I mounted the compressor for my Air Horns in its place. I've had my DRL's disabled for over a year without a hint of a problem.

I don't know why Toyota recommends a different procedure. Make sure to tape off the connector that you remove from the Resistor Pack. It's a grey molex connector with two wires in it.

Hope this helps.
