2000 4runner electrical/lights problem

Background: 2000 4runner, sport, 2wd, 67,000 miles, 3.4, auto.

Problem:
With the lights on the left turn signal just stays on. Both inside on the dash and outside. If I turn on the hazards while the lights are on nothing happens.
With the lights off both work like they should along with the hazards.

When I turn everything off and walk away and hit the lock button (or for that matter the unlock button) on the remote the locks work and the lights flash but not all of them. The right turn signal both front and rear don't flash.

Rant:
I just bought this. I spent two months researching here and at car sellers online and finally pulled the trigger on this awesome 4runner. Drive the 150 miles home and once to work and this happens tonight. I still have the 1000 mile, 30 day warrenty from the dealer but the problem is that I bought it from a honda dealership and it is 60 miles away. If I take it down there im sure it will not be just an afternoon job as they are not a toyota dealership. First thing tomorrow I'm going to call and figuare out what they can do.

Thanks: I've spent some time the last couple of months doing research on what things to look for and what to stay away from. I like the site and hope to be around for awhile.

part of the problem sounds like the alarm system.

is it the stock rs3200 alarm system? look under the seat. do you see a black box? if so, unplug it. now try unlocking/locking the doors. it should work.

with that out of the way, test your lights problem. if they work as they should, then my best guess is that the alarm system might have a little bug.

of note, many toyota owners have problems w/ the stock alarm system. especially w/ the rs3000. i think it mainly has to do w/ the taps they use instead of soldering.

anyways, give it a go and tell me if the symptoms are the same.

where are you in So cal?

I don't think I have an alarm just power locks with keyless. I'll check though.

I did a bunch of searching last night and lots of people just have bad turn signal bulbs and that causes some odd things like this. I'll replace the bulbs and check to see if I have that little box.

I'm in Palmdale/lancaster.

I've seen that often enough that I was going to suggest it. Sometimes the solder job on the bulb's contact face is of poor quality and workmanship. You might also want to remove bulbs from the suspect location and check voltages with a VOM. Pinched wires will do it, too. Hopefully it's something as simple as that...

Well I dont have that alarm but while I was changing the rear turn signal bulb I noticed that the trailer wiring was done by uhaul and comeing from the two tail lenses. Yanked all of that out and taped up the stock wires and everything is fine now.

I don't think there is any solder on 3rd gen 4Runner bulbs. They have glass wedge bases. But it may be applicable to someone using 1157 bulbs.

I hate when people hack wiring to install trailer lights when there is a plug in adapter to do it right.
Just make sure that if you had to reconnect wires that you either soldered them or at least used crimp connectors and did not just twist the wires together.

I stand corrected. I'm living in the past, when I had my '90 4Runner...
