2000 4runner 4WD not engaging

I had this problem before and i took it to the toyota dealership. They said they freed things up and the 4wd started engaging again. Basically, I have the push button 4wd on my limited and the lights just keep flashing and will not shut off even if I push the button again. It feels like one side is locked and not the other. I would love to be able to free it up myself but not sure how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1st, have you tried driving back and forth, even turning the steering wheel while doing so? Hopefully, it's just needs a bit of prodding to get it going again. Otherwise, it could be a vacuum leak, solenoid/actuator, wiring, etc.

You need to engage the 4WD system at least once a month for a few miles to keep it lubricated right.

Cackalak--thank you for your reply. I haven't had much of a chance to drive back and forth and turn the wheel while doing so but I will certainly try. I had been engaging it on occasion but I do believe I had not in a few months. I am feel like it is nothing more than stuck as the same thing happened before but maybe I am just having wishful thoughts. Thanks again for your help. Does anyone know how I could manually try to get it freed up if above suggestion does not work out?

You may have a common problem like myself and others. The good news is, it can be fixed for under $50 bucks;
