Be sure you fill the pocket under the distribter with oil. If not the distribter could seize before it gets oil. Besure all your fluids are topped off and all the connections are tight.

Disable the ignition / fuel, and turn the engine over with the starter until you have oil pressure. Then restore ignition / fuel and start it.

i would recommend right after it starts to hold it at 1500-2000 rpm for 20 or so minutes to allow extra oil to splash on the cam lobes and cylinder walls, and after that, dont let it idle too long before you drive it, that hone on the cylinder walls only lasts so long, put a decent load on it a few times to help seat the rings, don't baby it, but don't abuse it either, just drive it like you normally would

Don't run synthetic oil if you just rebuilt a motor, it is too luby?????
It's better to go with just plain 10W-40 oil, it has more resistance.

Make sure after a couple hundred miles to do an oil change and look for and metal scrapings, make sure you tear apart the oilfilter, metal casing and all. Inspect the filter part thoroly.

After the motor is broken in, you may use synthetic oil if you please.

thanks for the help guys
the engine had about 5,000 miles when it 1st was rebuilt. then the oil and coolant mixed so they company that rebuilt it "fixed" it. they told me there was a pinhole in the block. they replaced the block and kept all the same internals.
also i bought some 5w30 (non synthetic) should i change it? i got 5 this time cuz i think its gunna be cold winter this year. i usually run 10w30 all year doesnt get too cold here in southern cali. but this year we started gettin snow in the mountains just this last week
