I was just wondering if I can do the deckplate mod on my1st gen pickup w/ 22RE. Seems to be a dumb question, but I can't find any on the mod page. Appears to be about the same procedure as the newer models. Jus' checkin 'fore I start cuttin'.

i would say it depends on what shape your airbox is. if its square/rectangle looking like the 3rd gen. 4runner, im sure you could. even if its not, i bet you could still think of some way around that

I looked at doing it to my 1st gen, but I couldn't find a large enough flat surface to attach it to. Let us know if you figure something out.

I don't think the surface should have to be flat. You could cut the hole and seal some PVC pipe inside it. PVC comes in all kinds of diameter end pieces with threaded caps to plug up the intake. The deckplate is just ideal (I think) because it seals back up almost flush and it looks cool. PVC plugs should be just as water tight. Get creative.

That is a good point. I guess I had just assumed you had to use a deckplate. I will check my air box out again. It might be a couple smaller pipe fittings would work well. Thanks for the idea

Check this link out, http://www.customtacos.com/tech/arti...4/intakepart1/, for some ideas. I realize it is on a newer style airbox. I was running along these thoughts for a while before I stuck with the good ol' deckplate.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I will have to wait a couple days to look at my airbox because its at a muffler shop so they can weld up a new exhaust system.
