1999 rear window and lock troubles.

hey guys.
i can unlock the drivers door and the other doors and hatch by turning the drivers lock clockwise, but i cannot relock by turning CCW. i can relock the pass. door and all doors by using the pass side door lock, but cannot unlock any of them. i can relock the rear hatch by using the hatch key hole, but i cannot roll the window up or down. all of the key holes only turn CW. is this normal?also, all the windows/locks/wipers/defrosters work from inside the cab. what can i do?

Sounds like your Key may be worn.

Toyota can cut you a new key for just a few bucks from your VIN, so I would try that before moving on to more expensive options.

$4 for a brand new cut and programmed transponder key...really?? I went in there and they told me $120 for a new key...I laughed and walked away. Someone else I know on the east coast actually got quoted $150...or $120 just to program if he brought a new, cut transponder key in. I guess some of you have dealers that don't ask you to bend over and grab your ankles as soon as you walk in the door.

99 did not have a transponder key.

Laugh and walk away all you want, only Toyota can program that key for you. Not sure about you, but I like my vehicle to work the first time

Maybe some 99's do and some don't. My sisters '99 (which was originally mine for 6 years) does have a transponder key. I have programmed two keys myself without any problems (on a '99 and '02) so I do get to laugh at Toyota and walk away.

(Obviously you have to have a master key (that can turn in the ignition) to program a new blank...otherwise Toyota probably is the only place to have a new one programmed)

Ok, well, that is pretty true. You would be one the very VERY select few that can program them then.

I'm coming over to your house when mine breaks

not really true about that price. when i bought my 99, the PO only had 1 key and 1 remote. i thought no biggie, i went to at least 4 places to have a spare key cut, NONE of then worked, couldn't turn either door locks or ignition. so i went to the closest dealership, Longo Toyota in El Monte to be exact, here is what i was quoted: $18 for the blank, $28 labor for cutting it. $137 for the remote, $56 labor for programming it. talking about rip off.

yes, at least for the 99 i have, it's very picky about the replacement keys. i took my chances bought the key blank itself, had it cut at a local Ace store for $2, it worked, sort of.... the key will open the 4 doors, but not the tail gate. it can start the engine, but only one way, if insert the key in other way, it won't turn the ignition.

later on, i bought a replacement remote from a shop in Whittier for $30 programed at sight, brand new.
