Has anyone replaced their power antenna? I am getting ready to pull out my stereo to replace with a older Alpine head unit. I am trading mine in for a 03 4Runner. I forgot that last summer a tree attacked my annenta and bend the thing. I have been using XM Radio since that, and never saw the power antenna again, but I am sure the dealer will when I traded and he'll probably knock off major bucks because of it.

I really want to know if I can just replace just the antenna and not the entire motor and all. The motor works fine. Also, if anyone knows how much the parts cost, that would be a big help.

Well if the motors still running maybe you can just replace the insert think there about 40 bucks or so, rather easy replacment.
Let me know if you need any more info.

I have a 91 4Runner but I would imagine the power antenna is very similar. WT is right, you can replace the antenna mast pretty easily. I just bought one for mine (car wash incident) and paid about $35 at the dealership.

To replace it, use the blade on a flat head screwdriver to loosen the trim ring at the base of the antenna. There should be little notches in the trim ring that you can push with the screwdriver. Once the trim ring and base are removed, turn on your stereo to extend the antenna. This should push the antenna out of the unit. Then, take the new mast and feed it into the motor assembly. Turn off the stereo and let the new antenna mast feed into the motor unit. Turning off the stereo would normally retract the antenna. Here, it feeds the antenna back into the unit. Once that is complete, just replace the base and trim ring and you're good to go.

Thanks for the info. As for XM, it is near CD quallity. In reality you can not tell the difference in my opinion. When I purchased the XM reciever, it was one of those, impulse buys. But I will tell you, I have not listened to FM in my car since I installed XM.

It has worked great for over a year. I am also glad that Hertz in now installing XM reciever in their rental's. I have had 3 rentals with XM added on, and it is great in a factory system as well.

I'll never have a system with out XM Radio. Plus it works everywhere. Never had a problem yetin the southeast.
