1996 4runner Sr5 Suggestions

Hi to all , Newbie here . I have a 1996 4runner sr5 5 speed 4x4. I just recently purchased new ties. I bought a set of 265/75/16 Firestone Destination MT's for the factory rims. I had this size of tire on it when I bought it . On the way home after a fresh alignment I had some rubbing( ver slight ) in a 360 style turn. I know that some person use the spacers to lift the trucks. I like the size of tire that I have , this SUV is a daily driver.I want to know everyones opinion. Some small lift would be nice, also I need to replace the shocks. I was also considering new rims. I like the standard Eagle ( I think it is the 058 ) that has the deep look modular style. What would be the correct width of aftermarket wheel and offset spacing. Like I said above, this is a daily driver and will most likely not do any real off-roading. If you guys and gals could point into a direction I would be so greatful. I'm an avid member at Mr2oc.com and was referred to this site. I hope this will be as pleasurable as Mr2oc.com
thanks,
Eric

Who on earth would buy a 96 4Runner SR5 V6 4WD with 265/75/16's? What's wrong with people these days! (Check the sig )

Ok, I recommend a 1" Roger Brown body lift. It will cure your rub. It cured mine. It will also add some character to the rig and improve your approach and departure angles slightly.

Let us know when you want to add some power. Check out the tech section. By the way, welcome to the best forum around!

Yeah 5-speed 96's suck, but your stuck now . I would do a BL too. I have 285's and I think I might go ahead and throw one on mine to cure some rubbing I have.

Welcome to the forum.

You should have bought a 97!

Anyways the 1 inch body lift is going to be the cheapest route. I have a 1 inch pp spring lift (actual lift 1.70") and I am still running stock shocks.

I would have to say that 97 was the best year.
Since your having to change out the shocks you might as well buy new coils front/rear. You'll get about 2 inch lift. Be careful though. Mod fever will start from here. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

FYI - there was a recall on the 1996 suspension - just make em give you the parts...sell them on ebay...then buy some OME

SLC PUNK

I can't wait to see pics of your

1992 Celica All Trac (AWD-Turbo) #223 of 271 US spec for 1992

I will post pics of both of my rides as soon as I can , keep your opinions coming.

Although Im worried about the suspension recall that was mentioned above. I have the SUV for a couple of years and now feel the need to do slight mods. The stereo equipment has been purchased . I have a Pioneer Premier Dex-P9 and Deq-P9 , JL Audio 10001 , 3004 , 3002 plus a Jl Audio 12w7 . I'm going to deaden the whole truck . Even the ceiling. I want to do some comfort mods and performance mods.

Also I detected that you guys do not prefer the 265/75/16 tire size that I bought or is it the tire brand. Like I said I need some fuel economy and the rugged look will be a bonus. I really want to add a safari rack . OOOOOOH

thanks TOYOTA fans ,
Eric

Don't worry about that. The dealer will just replace the rear springs and inner bumps.

The famous last words.

I want to do some comfort mods and performance mods.
See my last comment.

Probably the brand. That is a popular size.

Just curious: Have you checked into the HG recall on your rig?

I did on my 91 that I had . But this one I haven't . I think that is something that I need to look into . If the gasket goes I'm in trouble.

Also , why do people not like the Forestone's. I wanted the Goodyear MTR's but they were close to 900.00 everywhere . I got the Firestone's for $124.00 each installed with new valve stems etc...

thanks,
Eric

Oh man... You had to be there...

It was possibly THE BEST night of off-roading I've had in my short career of it.

We were ALL in "the groove" and just laughing at everything. I struck up that Vanna pose to show just how deep someone ("WATRD" here on the forum) was stuck. I was doin' my best to be a dork, and Damn did I hit it!

More pics are here:

The pic that Mike ("smegal") cropped up was grabbed from (I think) his own pics.
