1990 3.0 clutch?

I am getting ready to replace a friends clutch in his 90 pick up and wanted to double check with you guys.It will only start now by pressing the clutch button on the left of the dash.It will grind while trying to put it in reverse so you have to turn the truck off then put it in rev.It does rev a little higher then normal.I also noticed that the pedal bracket was cracked in the upper left hand corner so I had it welded.Do those symptoms sound like a bad clutch or something else?Would that bracket being cracked have helped the clutch to go?

hmm, sounds like multiple issues. Needing to press the clutch cancel button has nothing at all to do with a worn clutch. I would suggest adjusting the switch on the clutch pedal.

Revving a little higher than normal has nothing to do with the clutch either

GRinding when trying to shift into reverse could be worn clutch (but I would think you'd have the same problem going into first and you'd have slip on accelleration too) but it's also probable to be in need of adjustment, or pull the floor mats out from under the pedal, or look at the busing on the end of the shifter, or the shifter seat, or maybe that linkage/bracket setup you had to repair? Clutch pedal assembly bushings? The linkage into the clutch cylinder doesn't allow much leeway for slop or misadjustment....

Well I looked at it a little more today and I saw that the bracket is not only cracked but the clutch start switch is bent.I fixed the bend so now it will start with the clutch pedal.Would the cracked pedal bracket make it hard to shift? It goes through all the gears easy when the truck is of but they are hard to get in while running.I'm thinking maybe slave cylinder. The clutch still feels pretty strong. The bracket is broken at the top left of the bracket. It comes away from the firewall about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch when depressing the pedal.
