Will a 15" rim fit on a 3rd gen 4Runner LTD? Are the brakes any different between an SR5 and LTD? Stock size for a LTD is 16"... it seems that the only rims that come with a 3.5" backspacing are 15's.

I tried fitting my buddies 15" rims on my 1997 4runner (sr5) and they didn't fit as they couldn't clear the brakes. My runner came with 16" rims stock.

Thanks guys, the only 16" classic II's that come with the 3.75" backspacing is a 16x8, will this fit 33x12.5 tires? I was hoping for something in the range of a 16x10. Can anybody recommend any rims that are 16x10 with a 3.5" backspacing?

If you really want to run a 15" wheel, do a swap to 15" Taco brakes. It's pretty easy, just have to swap the rotor and caliper, and change the brake lines. The 15" Taco calipers bolt right up, but for some reason the brake line setup is different - it goes into the caliper at a different spot on the Taco caliper and I couldn't make the 4Runner line fit in.

People have also grinded their calipers to fit them as well.

15" rims and tires are much cheaper... I almost did this as well. But, since I am planning on doing a Tundra brake upgrade, Im not going to deal with it.

I would be hesitant to grind my calipers. When I test fit a 15" wheel on mine, it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to clearing the caliper. And normally grinding calipers wouldn't bother me - I had fit 15" wheels on my last truck (Xterra) that I fit on by grinding the calipers, but at least they were close to start with. My test fit on the Yota indicated that a LOT of material would have to go.
I'm running the 15" taco calipers right now just so I can run some 31" BFG's I already had kicking around (15" wheel), but when I lift in the Spring and start running bigger meats I'm actually going to go back to the stock 4Runner brakes because I can use the extra braking power.

BTW SC4Runner check your PM in a bit, I have a couple Q's for you regarding your lift.

Yep it all depends on what brakes they have. My 97 is an SR5 and it has 15" rims on it

steelies fit BETTER but not always on mine i have a set of 15x10s and wanted to mount em, tried grinding after a little my friend's steelies fit but still not my AR Baja's, long story short b4 the wheel would get on the Runner was pissing brake fluid so i'd say dont try

okay, well, I guess I will stick with 16's... I know wheel spacers are not usually recommended, anyone have experience with this at all? 1" wheel spacers would give me the recommended backspacing... thoughts?

Do not get wheel spacers. Get the wheel adapters.. look up on www.allprooffroad.com

you have to worry about the dust shield in addition to the calipers and rotors. a tacoma swap isn't necessary, most earlier 3rd gens came stock with 15s, the door panel info will tell you everything. just see if you can snag them off a part out, or borrow a vin and order some. you'll need all 3 though

So I’m in the middle of the swap and I ran into the problem with the brake lines not working I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner and I am putting the smaller rotors and calipers on it so that I can fit 15 inch rims putting the calipers off of the Tacoma onto it but the brake lines aren’t working will the brake lines off the Tacoma work

I would assume the brake lines off the truck that the calipers came from would work. so your putting 4cyl 2wd taco brakes and rotors on a 6cyl 4runner so you can fit 15" rims?, maybe someone from 2007 will chime in..
