100 Octane???
Would it be safe to run 100 octane in my runner? (S/C 3.4). Or even run 3/4 91 and the rest 100 - 110 octane?
Would that be to unstable to run? Or am i better off just using strictly 91. Because I know those octane booster products are a waste of money and they dont even boost it too much to be a noticable differance.
Thanks,
Stevo3

I am really debating it, I found a single pump out here in Arizona that has 2 hoses to it. 1 Being 100 octane. and the other being 110 octane. I just dont want to put it in my truck and then end up burning up the pistons. Thats why im trying to get some suggestions before i just go out and do it... To be on the safe side that is.

It shouldnt hurt at all. Octane is just a rating of ignition. lower the octane the more prone to ignition it is. Running higher octane than your car can use is pointless, but I would think with your S/C, (and if you have fuel mods) the 100 octane should run fine. Might even help you out a bit...

With the S/C Higher Octane is needed to decease detonation. The well known fuel system delivery fixes will also help to decease detonation
At $5.50 plus per gallon for 100+ fuel, fuel fixes appear cheaper than regular $90 fill ups

Well, no fuel mods yet. Im just trying to play around with it a lil bit. to see if it reduces some of the pinging until i do get all the fuel mods.
So this will be some trial and error. I didnt see any other posts about people with S/C's trying to use any higher octane rather than 93 the highest. Which we dont get that here in Arizona, the highest is 91. Im going to stop by that shop and talk to them a bit about it. Im just getting some info from the rest of you all to see what you think first before they tell me otherwise.

Agreed, But i dont plan on filling it completely with that stuff. with the 100 octane i would do like 1/2 91 & 1/2 100. If i thought about using the 110 it would be more like 3/4 91 : 1/4 110.

A 96 4Runner that's supercharged in Phoenix? C'mon people, let's get real!
100 sounds like a good idea, especially since you are running that thing with no fuel/timing mods! Hey, do you at least have the Free FMU mod? Please tell me you do!

and forget half anf half 100 and 91, just run the 100.
AND GET FUEL MODS. lol. before you blow something up.

The lowest octane you can run that doesn't detonate is the best fuel to run. Higher octane gas has a lower energy density then low octane so you're fuel economy will suffer if you run higher octane then you need. My advice would be to fill your tank with increasing proportions of 100/91 mix until you stop getting detonation then increase the proportion slightly to account for harder driving and hotter days. Using "too high" an octane will never hurt your vehicle, it will just hurt your wallet.
Then forget all of that and fix your fuel delivery problem, maybe even stick on an intercooler too.

we get alot of the tuner kids at the track and they fill up with the 115 stuff and wonder why they dont run faster.
higher octane in a normal vehicle does little to nothing
Sunoco fuels has a chart that tells you what the octane ratings are and what minimums you need to use a certian fuel.
most 114, 115 octanes are for 13 to 1 and over motors
we have 100 available at a local station here at $5.59 a gallon
twenty bucks only gets you a few gallons
true race fuels are available at the track and a VERY pricey 6-9 bucks a gallon
