My 04 now as 9100 miles on it and the moonroof has started squeaking. It sounds like the gaskets are squeaking on the body. I have played with different positions and sometimes opening, then closing it or tilting then closing it makes it go away. Sometimes it does not. I was thinking of lubing the gaskets with some non Armor All style stuff. Then I pressed on the sunroof and it moves when closed when I press on it and it makes the same noise. It there an adjustment on these to set the closed/open/tilt positions?


The other thing I noticed is if I tilt then close the roof closes flush with the body. If I open then close the moonroofs back edge sits lower than the body a little bit.

Found out today that my dealer says there is a TSB for ALL 4th gen 4Runners on the moonroof. There is, according to him, some kind of adjustment that needs to be made to the tracks in the roof. This required the header to come down and will take him a few hours-half a day. He says it will stock my gasket from squeaking and it will make the roof close to the same spot from both the tilt and open positions..

My moonroof came out of alignment to the point were it did not close properly, took it back to the dealer for a day. AFter they aligned and serviced the unit, I had no more rattles and has been working great ever since. I bought mine in Nov 2002 (2003 model), so I just thought it was an early problem, seems Toyota has not fixed it yet.

Just get the dealer to fix it, worked for me.

Bought mine in Nov 2002 also, moonroof works fine except the tracks don't stay to well greased, it has a weird noise when closing kinda like a shutter or slight vibration but it stays closed does not leak and is fine, I use it all the time
