Thats funny cause I just had the same problem arise on my 138k mile 4runner and I don't know what it is either.

Mine is consistant across all engine temps and outside temps...im hoping maybe a sensor just got outta whack or something simple. Its just annoying cause its a 34,000 mile engine with a idle knock! hopefully we can both get some feedback ehh

i have an 01 Tacoma with about 76k miles on it.. doing the same thing... just a valve tap is all i got if we have the same thing... you get a haynes book tells you how to do it.. just have to adjust the clearance.. wont hurt anything just annoying ha

If you think it might be valve noise I suggest you have your valves adjusted. A lot of shops do not adjust the valves on those engines because it is a bit of a pain. If a valve clearance is off, the shim has to be removed, measured and replaced with one that is the correct thickness to bring the clearance back into spec. (Way more time consuming than your typical rocker style adjustment) If your valves are not within tolerance you will hear a bit of valve noise. Not sure if that is your case or not.
