03 evac leak problem? rear diff?.... help!

problem...

Vehicle:
03 4runner v8 sr5 4x4
6500 miles to date

Problem:
Friday, on the way home I noticed that my check engine / vsc / trac light was all on. No odd sounds or anything, just the check egine light is on along w/ the vsc/trac light and the vsc off light. 4runner runs fine though... hmmm..

Have no idea why it's on thought it might be the ecu so i disconnect the fuse for the ecu and waited and thought that might reset everything... nah still same problem.

So i sent it into the stealer to have it checked (sat). they said they'd have to hold it till monday so... guess i'm waiting.. prob get a call from them tomorrow...

anyway after i dropped it off i remembered something... I have the rear diff breather mod on.... !!! i just hope that it won't void my warranty or better yet i hope that they won't be telling me they can't warranty my 4runner now cuz of the mod!!

just venting but not like i can do much as my 4runner is already at the stealers just venting....

anyone know what it might be the reason? maybe the rear diff mod? aside from that I can't imagine why this problem would occur... arg...

Thanks...

Lance

Lance, sorry for your troubles. I've no idea what's going on with your truck. Any other mods than the breather? Have you been playing around with TRAC/VSC disconnects? I've read that the sure way to reset the ECU's is to disconnect the battery positive terminal for 15 minutes, but then I've never tried.

I seriously doubt that the dealer will even notice the breather mod. There's not feedback loop to trigger a light. Something else going on there, good luck and keep us posted.

One thing, though. You're entitled to a free loaner vehicle any time your 'Runner is kept overnight for warranty work.

okay update on the problem:

They told me that the problem was from the rear diff breather mod.

Said that they noticed it was a evap leak at the rear diff? the hell?

Said they'd just reset the memory on the ecu so the check engine light will not come on but told me that i should reinstall the stock breather and it should be fine.

evap leak? c'mon that's gotta be fuel related... anyway they just reset the computer so i guess i'll wait and see if it reappears.

Thanks for listening to my ranting! hehe

Lance

Am I the only one that thinks their response is a cover-up for they don't know what the problem is?? How could the rear differential breather mod cause that??

im a retard when it comes to cars, except for electric and taking the interior apart. But dealers suck from experience, and most people dont know what they are doing. to many stupid people in this world.

Good times if it happens again. Take the mod off and go to a different dealer if possible. If not a different dealer take it back to the same they most likely wont remember.

Hope you get it fixed.

update again..

since they told me that it was a evap leak i knew it can't be the diff mod.

anyway i looked it up in my svc manual it was specifically a leak from the fuel system (i.e. loose gas cap).

duh!... I should have known that but anyway, I wonder how the new 03 gas caps can get loose anyway when it's a different setup where we just lock the cap instead of twisting it 500 times?

but anyhow the stealer said that they won't void my warranty and to make sure i take the mod off (please... lol).
