03 4Runner fog light wiring diagram?

Does anyone have an electrical service manual for this truck?

I want to use an external switch so that the OEM fog lamps will illuminate without the low beam headlights.

I want to find the wire under the dash that operates the fog light relay when the switch on the turn signal lever is on. I assume the switch sends 12 volts to operate the relay.

Can anyone help?

Bill:

reading this, does this mean that you're gonna just get the fog light and add it yourself? because if that's the case then you should just wire it up yourself as it'll be easier than tapping into the existing wiring loom.

lights ------- ground
------- power from relay

relay ------ output to lights
------ input from battery
------ ground
------ signal from switch

switch ------ 12v from direct source - batt
------ ground
------ accessory line to relay

this should do it (sorry didn't have time to make a pic for ya but it should make sense i hope)

if you have the factory fog lights and want to make it so u can light it up w/o the headlights, then just trace the line of the switch and then relocate it to the direct source instead of the headlight source.

hope that makes sense..

good luck

Thank you. I have the OEM lights. I'm looking for the wire color, since I don't want to pierce the insulation on all the wires running to the stalk in order to determine the correct one. If someone has the electrical service manual, I'd greatly appreciate the information.

Wire color code

The wire coming off of the light control switch is green with red stripe. Goes to the engine room relay block located on the left side by the battery. The Fog Relay is the # 2 relay in there. Pins 1 & 2 are the coil and 5 is power and 3 goes to fog lamps.

Hope this helps, if you need more info let me know.

Ah, Roger, you're a Prince among men. Many thanks. One final question. Do I apply 12 volts or ground to the green wire with the red stripe?

Bill,

You need to apply 12V from your switch to this wire which then activates the relay coil. The lamps are powered by their own 15A fused circiut.

Roger,

I have question along these same lines, I also have 03 4Runner with the factory fog lights, but I would like to modify the behavior of this switch to allow me to turn the fog lights on when the parking lights are on. Currently you can only have the fog lights on when the headlights are on.

I made this same change to my Tundra, but the wiring on my wife's 4Runner is completely different.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Shane

Roger, thank you.

I cut the green/red stripe wire a few inches from the stalk connector, and extended the harness side of the wire to a Cole Hersee #58328-64 SPST illuminated switch. I sourced the 12 volts from the windshield wiper stalk, so the power is off when the key is off. Works perfectly.

My next project is a pair of Hella 220 driving lights mounted on the bull bar. Would you mind telling me what wire controls the high beam light relays? I want to control the driving lights, via a relay, using the high beam relay feed.

Bill,

Sorry that I didn't respond to your last question sooner but I have been out of town working.

In answer to your question about the high beam relay, there is none. According to the wiring diagram the head light relay supplies 12V to both low and high beams which then goes to the control switch on the steering column and then to ground according to what position the switch is in. The only way to add a relay to control driving lamps would be to insall it in series with the wire coming off of the high beam light, but the coil would need to be capable of carrying whatever that amp load would be, otherwise it would burn out and you would have no high beam light.

Thanks Roger. I'm sure I can rig something up if I could see the actually schematic. Do you have the resources to scan the diagram and email it?
