Did some searching with no luck.
Wifey came home today from work and told me the 00 4R w/147k felt like something was jerking/catching when she left the stop light. She said it just started today...but who knows with her!? Anyway, I confirmed it. Feels like something in the rear end is catching or hanging up when you first let off the brake pedal. Goes away as soon as you start moving and does not do it in reverse.
Can any of you guys point me in the right direction on where to look for the problem to give me a head start? Heading out to grease the u-joint, but I don't think that's what it is.....

Mine does the same thing when the driveshaft needs lubing. Make sure you get all the zerks. 8 maybe? Check 4runners.org for a write-up.

could be seized parking brake pivots making the rear brakes bind. easy to check, have someone
yank on the parking brake and someone else get down and see if the pivots move in and out freely

I know what you're talking about too, my 96 Limited does it. I seem to notice it more when I have to stop completely and not being able to slowly stop and ease off of the brake pedal once I'm completely stopped. Let off the brake and you can see the shifter move and you can feel a slight jerk. I'm thinking the same thing with the ebrake but then again who knows since you don't use the ebrake to stop. Maybe a wheel cylinder, I do know my shafts (hehe) are lubed (bwah haha) so that's not it.

I had a Yota Service Tech say my tranny mount was bad so when I had a shop do some AC work I asked them to look at it and they said it was fine, effing stealership service writers! They'd get much more business if they're were more honest and didn't try and screw people into buying stuff they don't need. I'm assuming they get a commission from recommended services.

My 01 SR5 does the same thing at 85K. Feels like it stays in second gear until you let off the brake then when you start to accelerate it downshifts to 1st. That's what it feels like anyways. I just changed both differential fluids and noticed no difference. Accelerates a tiny bit smoother though.

Could be your axle seals leaking. That happened to mine not too long ago. The diff fluid gets in the drum, mixes with the brake dust and makes kind of a glue.

Mine only does it when I come to a complete stop without letting pressure off of the brakes as I stop.

As for the leaky seal, I replaced my drivers rear seal but everything was very clean. No glue like residue or substance anywhere.

My driver side and passenger side seals ended going bad within 2 months of each other. When I would pull the drum off the inside surface would have thin layer of black layer of sticky stuff. I could clean it with brake cleaner and it would be fine for a day or so.

It appears that greasing all the zerks fixed the problem! I was positive that I was in for a much bigger project. Finally.....an easy fix for a change!

yeh i did that the other day and it fixed a clicking noise i would get when i would go in a constant speed in 4H, but i could only hear it on road. three places i brought it to told me that it doesnt have grease fittings so i did it myself. (and ive never done more than change a tire, it was awesome hahaha)

Really, I lube mine every other oil change so I might have a bad ujoint or something then.
