tinigunner's 1986 4runner build.....again....
Well this seems familiar... To start off a little back story. I'm finally back in the toyota game. In the summer of 2012 I found a deal I thought I couldn't pass up. It was a 1986 4runner with something wrong with it. The PO didnt know what it was, so she had the engine tore apart and put it in the passenger seat. Willing to take the risk I bought it for $600. I couldn't seem to get the 4runner to ever start, got frustrated and my dad got tired of it taking up his garage. So it went on to craigslist and sold it to a guy in denver that bought it for his girlfriend. What's a better gift than a first gen 4runner?! While working on the 4runner my dad sold me the isuzu rodeo that had been in our family a while. Well being a kid that just got his license, I threw everything I had at the little truck until it had had enough. The transfercase got stuck in 4hi, the cv shafts blew and it just got worse from there. So while I was in between trucks I drove my dad's '97 f350 crew cab long bed around.
The thing was awesome until diesel got expensive. The whole time I had been searching for another first gen 4runner. My dad told me to start looking at craiglist harder and gave me three days. After 10 minutes my search was over and I had found my new whip.
It's a 1986 4runner sr5? it's got a few things that makes me think it is or someone did a good job of trying to make it an sr5. I'm not really sure so I'll let you experts decide that. The interior is pretty dirty, really needs a good deep clean or the carpet torn out. It's got 235500 miles, a rebuilt 5 speed, a fresh set of piston rings from the PO and a bald set of 31's. My plans for it are pretty straight forward. Plans are some balljoint spacers and some chevy 63's for a small lift, new tires 31x10.5 mt, rattlecan paint job, and whatever else I can think of It's got to be my daily driver and my toy for a while. It's really not a bad daily driver. I've been getting 20.8 mpg I feel like I've typed a lot so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Sweet bumper that it came with.
worst rust spot on the truck the PO gave me two rust free fenders I'm just waiting to find a good time to put the on.
back passenger side, looks like it was "fixed"
other side. I'm scared to take the plastic off...
strange discoloration on the door
sr5 cluster
altimeter!! Was stoked to see this in the dash!
passenger seat. Not torn just dirty
extra 12v outlets
backseat's in good condition. And for all the people wondering, those are headrest out of a 2nd gen 4runner. read somewhere that they didn't fit but they totally do!!
rear heater
Rear cargo area pretty dirty and needs a good clean.
found this gem in the back cubbies
22re shots
dual tow hooks
