This is my first post and thought that it would be fitting to make it a build thread of my 87 Yota. I am pretty new to the Toyota scene but am not new to four wheeling and fabrication. I have owned and wheeled jeeps for a while and I decided that I wanted to build a Toyota. The whole idea of this build is to keep it semi "cheap" and fun. I picked up the truck yesterday and it comes with a laundry list of things to fix. The passenger side door will not open from the outside, one of the pulleys (i think idler) is locked up, the tail gate mechanism is broke and the interior is trashed (don't let the pics fool you) and needs some serous cleaning. I plan on pulling out the carpet and bed lining the floor very soon. This build is going to be slow for a while as I find and buy parts.
Currently:
Stock 22r (Yes it is carbureted) with 236,000 miles, stock trans, stock transfer case, stock gears, and no lockers. (basically completely stock)
My future plans for the rig:
- Dual cases (stock gear in both at first, will put 4.7's in the back later on)
- Ditch the I.F.S. and go with a dana 60 in the front with 5.38's and a Detroit
- Switch the stock rear axle with a 14 bolt or dana 80 5.38's and a spool
- 3 link front and leafs in the back (will probably switch the back to 4 link later)
- Custom drive shafts and Custom exo cage
- suspension seats with harnesses
- Full Hydro or hydro assist steering (haven't decided yet)
- 41.5 tsl sx's or 39.5 irocks (haven't decided yet)
- Propane injection

As soon as she made it home I already ditched the cheesy chrome rear bumper, plastic bead liner, cleaned the interior some, and got rid of the trailer wiring. and here are some more pictures...

Today, I did some investigation on why the idler pullry is lock up and foud this...
I called my local auto parts store and got a new one ordered, but until then I will not have power steering.

Well, I havent done much to the truck mechanically, but I took her wheeling yesterday.
I learned a couple things about the truck.
1. The lack of ground clearance with ifs and 27' street tires.
2. The truck really needs at least a rear locker (before i work it over) because its always 2 or 3 wheeling.
I have been looking for axles for a while (before I even bought the truck) and might of finally of found a front passenger side drop d60 for a fair price, but more on that later.

Today, I went and took a look at the dana 60 that, I was previously talking about... Overall pretty good shape and long story short, I bought it!!

I bought 35 spline stub shafts and new ujoints so, I could ugrade to 35 spline hubs. I still need to buy the gears and a locker... I got a lead on a rear axle but, of course, more on that later. 👍🏻

The buddy I bought the front axle from, owns a sand blaster and he sand blaster the axle for free. 👍🏻 I also got my new stub shafts and ujoints in the mail.
