I also went back to the stock rims after I bought my 4Runner. I say, do it. $100 is a great deal! Make sure they aren't damaged.

Sorry to hear about the accident :/

Sorry to hear about your wife's accident and hope she is ok. Since she drove the Chevy back she must of been fortunate. Sounds like it might work out better for you in the long run.

Thanks Gevo, seems like we have bad luck this time of year, I hit a deer in her Durango last fall, now this, could have been worse though!

I like the stock wheels, I think they look really good on the first and second gen 4runners, unfortunately I missed out on those ones on CL for a $100. I found another set of 4 for $200, they have been posted for over 20days, might see if I can talk him down a bit. I will definately be sure to check them over for damage.

Thanks Terry. She suffered a mild concussion, whiplash, and lumbar strain in her back, I'm sure she will be going through physical therapy again, as this is her second car accident in 4 years. Thankfully our kids weren't riding with her at the time! They were both riding with my wife the last time when she got T-boned, luckily they weren't seriously injured in that one. We had planned to pay off the Durango with the money from selling my 86 4runner, and I was going to buy the Chevy for myself, but now she will probably be using it mostly, that's ok, glad I got this 87 4runner when I did!
Heres a few pics of her wrecked Durango:

BFGoodrich KO2 All Terrian 31x10.5 R15's!!!

I got some new shoes. Some of you that followed my 86 V8runner build thread might remember me winning BFG's KO2 "Rocks to Riches" contest earlier in the year. I ended up getting a brand new set of 4 BFG KO2's in a 35x12.50 17's to put on my 86 4runner. Well I was saving up to get some wheels for them, but then ended up selling the 4runner, but I kept the KO2 tires. So the other day I went down to one of the local tire shops that carry BFG and talked to the manager about trading them in on a smaller set to fit my 87' 4runner. The manager didn't seem to enthusiastic about the idea, so I explained to him that they were brand new, and never had been mounted on wheels, so he told me to go ahead and bring them in and he'd take a look at them. Long story short, he let me trade them in on a new set of four 31x10.50R15's.

Size: 5.9 KBNow I'm trying g to decide on wheels. I can't find a nice set of the alloy 4runner 15x7's (^^^above) in good condition, the nearest pick-n-pull has some, but they are in fair condition, from the pics the finish doesn't look very good on them:

So I was thinking about getting some early Tacoma wheels...What do you guys think???

I think the Tacoma wheels will look great on your runner

on the starter issue
I had the same problem with my 88'
I got a kit on ebay what had a few small pieces for the solenoid in it
the 2 little "L: shaped pieces develop a deep grove in them from use
so the spark start to have a hard time jumping inside to make good contact

this is what I bought & the starter lasted a couple more years for me
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-Sol...1WafRA&vxp=mtr

good luck

Thanks for your input on the wheels, I think they will look good as well, although I'm still not sure which ones I like better, lol. I haven't had anymore problems with the "click no start" issue, since I adjusted the clutch safety switch, so hopefully that fixed it!

I can meet you halfway, lmao!!!

I miss having a local yota friends around, before we moved 3yrs ago I had a bunch of guys I could buy/sell and trade parts with, most of them I had met from CL when I was parting out my 85', but it makes it nice when you need something! Now if I really need something, and can't find it on CL, I have to travel 2hrs to the nearest pick n pull...at least I can order parts from them online, and they have them ready to pickup when I get there, lol.

KO2's mounted

So I ended up going with the factory SR5 wheels instead of the tacoma wheels, mainly because of the price difference, so I went ahead and got 5 of them so I will eventually have a matching spare. The pick&pull didn't have any of the center caps in stock, so I will have to get some later. I got the KO2'S mounted and balanced today, I didn't realize that the factory alloys took a special lugnut, and nobody had them in stock, so I had to order some, won't be in till next Monday.

^^^Picked up some jeep TJ coil springs for the upcoming Zuk-mod, I ordered front springs, these look like rear springs to me, but should still work, they have a little more rust than I'd like, but if they work out well I'll clean them up and repaint them come spring/summer.

^^^I also picked up this 14" chop saw from Harbor Freight, I've been wanting one for years, should make my rear bumper/tire carrier build that I'm planning alot easier. It was on sale for $99, then an additional $20 off that, which I put towards a 2 year service agreement, so if it doesn't hold up I should be covered.

^^^Here's a pic of our new to us 2002 Chevy Silverado that's replacing the wrecked Durango, so far I really like it, way more comfortable on trips than what I'm used to, heated seats are a bonus!

I have a set of factory lugnuts and center caps off my 87 4Runner in the classifieds if you're interested. The caps front caps are the ones that fit over the Aisin hubs.

They'll fit over your Warns just fine too but there will be a gap since the Warns are skinnier at the end.

Good choice on the factory rims. I switched from after market steels and over size BFG's to the factory aluminum's (striped them with aircraft stripper then sprayed them with black engine enamel before mounting tires) and 31x10.5 General grabber AT2's. Dropped 12 lbs of rotating mass per corner if i remember correctly and got better gearing.

That's quite a bit of weight, should help alot since I'm moving up aprox 3" taller in tire size. I like those General Grabbers, they have the red lettering correct? I might paint mine black later this summer, I might try the plasti-dip paint first in case I don't like it I can peel it back off, lol.

^^^I cut aprox 4" off the coils, making them 12" I was able to unbolt the bottom of the shock, put the jack between the frame and leafsprings and slip the coils in without having to compress the springs.
I had some old Rancho shocks that were off my 86' 4runner they are about an inch longer than the stock shocks when compressed, and have about an inch more length when fully extended.

^^^And here's it is after with the coils installed. The measurement from the top of the wheel to the lip of the fender well was at 10" before, and now it's at 13" so it lifted the back 3". I took it for a test drive, and it rides way better, no more bottoming out on potholes. It's got a little bodyroll, but not bad, the stance looks like it has a little bit of a rake, I'll wait to see if the back settles any, I can always cut a little more off the coils to make it set level later.

The grabbers are black wall / Whitewall. Heres a pic of the stockers painted with the Generals mounted.

I like the look of big tires but it does come with the cost of lift and gearing. 31s seems to be about the best fit all the way around without all the other things that come along with the bigger tires.

Your Zuk mod turned out great, I remember the days of bottoming out and what it does to the backbone, don't miss those days at all. Looks like you are getting things done quick.

Those are some good looking tires, I like the wheels painted black, I may go that route too, depending on how well these wheels clean up.

Hello Terry. I like the looks of a lift and bigger tires as well, but like you said it comes with a price. I think I'm going to keep this one closer to stock(ish) at least for now.

After driving to work yesterday I had mixed feels on how the rear coils are performing . They seem to do good on the bigger bumps, but I can feel all the smaller ones, I think the pick & pull gave me rear jeep TJ coils instead of the front ones, they look shorter and fatter than the ones I used to have on my 86' and the other ones seemed like they rode better. When I ordered these online, there wasn't a picture to look at. I think I will wait till after I get my 31's mounted and see how it rides, and looks, then if the stance still looks too high in the back I may cut the coils off more, I'm thinking my shackle angle might be what's causing the rougher ride. I may eventually get some different coils springs if these don't work out, but for now they will do, at least I'll have clearance to run the 31's.
