ricoisme's 1991 xtra cab sr5 build

Time to start a build thread!

So i've had this truck for 5 years now, bought it initially to drive in the winter but have ended up liking it more than my car. That being said I just sold my car so it's finally time to play!

I'll try to post up pictures from the beginning, Like i said I got it in college and my father did a lot of body work on it when I first got it he's always helped me with my projects and taught me everything I know about working on cars trucks and motorcycles. He also likes documenting his work something I'll hopefully pick up from him for this thread.

I can't find any pictures of when I first brought it home but it had sat for 3 years and the PA salt had not been kind to it, needed rockers cab corners, fenders, and honestly a new bed

e

Finally some color! This is what it looked like when it got on the road back in january 2012, the body work had been done on and off october through november of 2011 and the paint/mechanical issues were addressed on my christmas break from college. Since then its stayed pretty much the same, I'll try to dig up some photos of it since then, we did redo the rockers last fall and sparyed them in bedliner to help protect them. The bed is getting pretty rough again, going to college in Erie PA and not washing it all winter has eaten away at it pretty good.

Here's some tough times had a had with it my freshman year of college
When you buy an old truck and don't replace the alternator, always check the alternator

When you buy an old truck and don't replace the dry rotted valve stems, check those valve stems

Bringing this up to date quickly I have since added a camper shell, made a tube rear bumper and messed around with an 2009? taco bench seat but returned to the buckets that were in it when i bought it since.

Here are a couple pictures of it from a camping trip this past weekend...

The Build

So i guess this hasn't really been a build thread up to this point but tomorrow is the day!

Drivetrain:
5vz-fe swap
TRD supercharger (eventually)
some type of locker eventually
maybe manual hub swap
possibly gear driven transfer case

Suspension:
Total Chaos Long travel Gen 2 Caddy Kit
Still not sure what to do with the rear to match it
33"x10.5" BFG T/A KO2s are what i hope to run
not sure on the wheels yet maybe keep the ones I have??

Armor:
Custom front bumper with winch mount
Custom rear bumper with tire carrier maybe some jerry cans and a jack
Custom rock sliders
Custom skid plates (at least to replace the front)
Always wanted to build some tube doors for it in the summer time

Exterior:
New camper shell that can support a strong roof rack
Some LED lights, at least one for a back up light
Fiber glass fenders for with the long travel kit
need a new bed or maybe fibergalss bed sides to match the wider front

Electronics:
?????
Are CB radios still cool?

Interior:
Remove carpet
Bedliner floor
Waterproof seat covers

I will add things to this list and cross things off as done as I continue this project right now this is just a rough outline of things I hope to do

Parts truck

So I picked up a 1998 T100 as a donor for the 5vz-fe I figured it was better to have everything I need with a whole truck than try to piece together parts from junk yards and craigslist.

the truck didn't have rear leaf springs on it so it made loading it on the trailer interesting and getting it off the trailer and in the garage even more interesting.

tried using the cart in the bottom of the picture to hold the trucks rear end. It didn't hold up

this smaller dolly ended up holding it better with the help of a 2x8

Heres the carnage, one cart down!

My dad used it to work on pick up beds off the body before but looks like we need to build a new one

decided to use the tractor to pull the truck in the garage

Jumped ahead to the back half of the frame cut off

Wanted to free up some room in the garage to work around the truck

cut off the front end to make things easier, engine is just about ready to be pulled out tomorrow

Also I have two questions maybe someone can help me with

1 - What all do I need to do for the evap system in this swap? Haven't found much info on how guys mounted it in the pickups engine bay, I may just need to dig deeper on that though,

2 - Does anyone have an headers for the 5vzfe for sale? I'd love to get doug thorley's but they are just too expensive and I don't need to have brand new shiny headers just as long as they aren't smmashed up. I hope to do the TRD S/C in the future and who doesn't wanna make their truck sound a little better PM me or leave a reply and I can PM you.

Thanks
