nvwiggins building Blue on a budget...for now
I'll start out by stating my plan for this build. I currently have an 07 mid travel Tacoma, an 85 302 swapped 4Runner, and just recently picked up this 2nd Gen 3.0 4Runner. I picked this thing up for a decent price at $650, put the cheapest fuel pump I could find in it for under $40, and picked up a set of 33X12.50X15" BFG AT's with old school white spoke steelies from an old guy I get parts from every once in a while. I ordered the 4Crawler BJ spacers and rear spring spacers for now so I can clear the new tires. My plan is to determine how much longer the 3.0 is going to run and keep it with the BJ spacers and spring spacers until i gather all of the parts needed for a 3.4L swap, Total Chaos 4x4 LT, and LT dealers in the rear with a T-100 axle to match the front which is why I say "budget for now".
I bought it from some people that seem to neglect everything they've ever owned so I knew there were going to be some issues. For starters they said the motor was bad, it has a shattered rear window, the passenger side front window doesn't roll up, looks as if they had a "spill soda all over the blue interior to make it black" party and all the tires are shot. Upon picking this 4Runner up I also found the rear drive line had mysteriously walked off an nobody knew where it could have gone.
After I got it out of their yard and to my property I threw some gas in it and tried starting it...but its never that easy, so since the motor turned over and had no gas delivery to the fuel rail I ordered a fuel pump. After installing the new fuel pump it actually fired right up after it charged the fuel lines. So now the 3.0 lives, but I haven't put many miles on it. It has a knock but i'm not sure if its a rod, or stuck lifter/valve since it had sat for such a long time. That being said it does pull the 4Runner in front wheel drive at about 75mph off-road with the air conditioning on.
Today I changed the oil/filter and threw some Sea Foam in with it to see if it clears up the knock at all. Tomorrow I plan on taking it for a short drive on the dirt roads past my property to see how it fares after the oil change.
Ok I'll quit boring everyone with writing and post some pictures.
This is after picking it up and taking it to my property where future projects get stored haha
Testing the fit of a random 33" spare that came with my 1st ten 4Runner.

Solid looking runner. It surprising how bad some people can run a truck down. You find all kinds of things on used cars. That makes you wonder. Great looking truck.

Picked up the old school white spoke rims and bfgs today and took it for a spin. Definitely rubs...think I'm going to need to give the wheels a gloss black Krylon bath here soon. White is a little much for my taste.

Is there a brand on those wheels by any chance? If so could you let me know?

And it was a ratchet strap because the guy had apparently dropped the tank for some reason and lost all the bolts. Typical crap that happens when you buy a vehicle from whiskey tango people. It has bolts now and is nice and secure haha.

On another note my BJ spacers and rear spacers should be here Monday, that should solve some clearance issues haha.

Kinda funny, my Tacoma is in this months 4wd Toyota Owners magazine in the readers rides, I submitted the picture probably two years ago or so, it's crazy to look at it now and see how much it's changed.
