That explains a lot actually. However, I'm now debating if I'm even going to give my old 22re to either of you. I guess it'll depend upon who helps me out the most when I do finally do an engine swap! Though I still like the 5-page essay about why you may need my old motor more than the other guy. LOL

Anyway....Moving along, got the coil spings for the rear finally, now I just gotta get some longer-than-stock shocks and we'll tackle the install.
AND heres the front frame truss we'll be bolting on pretty soon as well, just gotta get the right kind of mounting hardware...and get motivatied enough to wanna drill holes in the lower control-arm mounting brackets...

Hahahaha, ...when I was like 6, my Dad used to brake a bottle over the trash and say, "Here Kid,.....take this broken bottle and go play on the freeway!"....lol. He was way cool, just joking around, .....at least i THINK HE WAS JOKING!haha.
Looking good, man. I'm still undecided on the lift stuff. Wabbit sent me a link for the 2" kit, but it's an add-a-leaf and spacers.....amongst some other things, including extended shocks, and so on......and now, I'm so confused from looking through 4,000,000,000 THREADS on 4,000,000 sites,......I think blood is starting to seep out my tear ducts! lol.
Yeah, I have NO CLUE when it comes to suspension, other than changing an idler arm or two, ...things like that. I think I'll wait to see how you like it....you know, like a lab rat! lol. Jk. I didn't remember reading about the front frame truss.....what's goin on there? 'Splainnnnnnnnnnnn it to him!' Lol. Oh, yeah, I was wondering....am I better off just starting with replacing my tired leafs, just to get started? I'm serious, Koze...they're FLAT! Strange, though....it doesn't sag much. Trust me, IT'S A HARD RIDE on every bump. The whole truck ROCKS me silly even on parking lot bumps, haha. Would new leafs help that? Shocks to go with em?

New leafs would help for sure, but not for very long. I threw new leafs on my runner from an old wrecked 88 from the junkyard and they were in better condition than the ones I had, but it didn't take but a year or two for them to sag again. The coils I bought (according to all the other dudes who did it) will not only give me a little lift, but it'll keep my stock leafs off the overloads for years and years. New shocks would definately help a bit too, you can get stock replacements, or go for meaner after market shocks.
Still though, the best way to get the rear of these runners up is with coil springs, at least thats the best and cheapest I've seen. Theres other options, but they require a lot more of an undertaking (like getting chevy full-size truck leaf springs or deavers under it)
As for the frame truss, if you look underneath the 4runner, the rear mounting bracket for the lower control arms stick down off the frame a bit. the truss squeezes between those two brackets and you just bolt it on (requires lotsa drilling). The purpose of said truss is to keep those control arm brackets in the front suspension from bending inwards or outwards while doing a lot of high-speed or heavy 4wheeling. Its VERY essential when building a long travel prerunner-ish truck. I'll post a few pics once I get it under the truck so you can see what I mean.

Ok, so we've been having some issues at home recently, such as a badly leaking water heater and a garage so disorganized and cluttered theres barely room to breathe. I've had to help deal with said issues so hadn't had any time to put into the 4runner. I'm also starting to work fridays and saturdays but that should only be for a month or so. The good news is I'll be getting a lot of overtime pay, so as soon as I get the free time and some much needed parts and materials, I'll be moving forward in my project.
Anyway, just letting everyone know (everyone whos paying attention anyway) Whats been going on. stay tuned and new build pics and posts will be coming soon!

Thanks! The latest update is this: I haven't bought the shocks needed yet, I was attacked by some random but very neccessary payments. Instead, I bought the roll-in bed liner I've been prepping the 4runner for, for the past few weeks. If I manage to get up early enough (BEFORE it gets too hot outside) I'll get the first half of the application in the truck this weekend! ...of course, I've said things like that before, Lol. I'll post pics soon!

Alright, had some spare time finally so I went out and get something done on the truck. After a few hours with a wire-wheel and some acetone, the prep work was finally done and I put in the first half of the roll-in bed-liner.
Two coats (and 14hours) Later, it should be completely dry and ready for all the abuse I can throw at it.
Oh yeah, and some glamour shots-
I'd post "before" pics, but I think most people know what the back of a 1st gen 4runner looks like, or at least I hope they do, LOL.
Its finally back on 32" tires too! Hooya!

YEAH, ....great to see you back on it, Mozernator! 32's, eh? Are those 32x11.5's?
HEY, where's those flags? I liked that, made you look "Presidential", hahaha. No, really, ...where are they? lol.
Like that idea, for your application, Moze....is that roll on stuff working well? Just curious though....Black, where you are? Looks good, just thought it would get hot and such. ....But who cares, it's 'DESERT FLYING TIME IN SUMMER, TOPLESS!' hahaha. I like how it's sitting, too, Moze!
Good to see you back on it,
Mark

I'm seriously considering spray painting the bed-liner a light grey to match the rest of the interior, and defeat that heat problem as well. Right now the liner is still "curing" I'll be sure to post a review once I start throwing heavy stuff on it! Lol

Sweet! Yeah, I wasn't downing your choice or anything Moze, ...it's just that, I remember in all my trips up in that region...IT'S FREAKIN HOT in the summer! lol. 110* one day when my buddy and I stopped there at the Ridgecrest RiteAid for Sumac Salve! lol Yeah, HE DID! lol. It happens, especially up in the Sequoias, eh? lol.
Cool, well, good luck with the results and I hope to see you happy with em!

Well, its been several weeks and I'm happy to report: The bedliner does Great! At collecting dust....haven't really dropped any random heavy objects on it yet to test it out. I've kinda been distracted recently by the insane triple-digit temperatures and also by my other most important hobby, competitive shooting.
Ugh...I want a tundra....

Moze, ....are you whining? hahaha, jk, jk, I joke, I kid! lol.
Seriously, though, ......... are you saying it's not working like you'd liked? Anyway, remember, now that you've got it nearly rust proof(not that you'd have that problem in THE OVEN that is the Mojave Desert, ..butttt, lol) , you could slap down an additional layer of 'cush', or 'sound deadening' if you will, ....by slapping in a removable Rhino Liner. Saw one the other day that was supposedly 'light' and molded to fit OUR RIGS. Thinking of getting one, especially since it also covers the back of the back seats!
Soooooo, WHEN DO I GET TO SEE SOME 'MOZE IS AIRBORNE, FOLKS' pics?
PS> I did a Zuk mod, ..... IN yeller down there>>>

Well, considering I'm leaving the top off and just going with a cage and some kind of tin roof (or maybe soft top, I've been looking at the custom made ones recently for ideas) Noise reduction isn't a big issue for me. NICE zuk mod thread by the way, soon as I get some longer shocks I'll be doing the same, shocks are seriously the only thing holding me up right now. Soon as that mod goes on I can garuntee I will be getting airborne for my "testing" phase!
