Gizler00's 88 Ex-Cab Build

Ok guys, I just Picked this Gem up off of my good buddy (283yotacrawler) over the weekend. He was initially going to do a SBC swap into it but we ended up finding a Reg Cab that was already setup for the SBC so......... here we are.

Its an 88 Ex-Cab SR5 22re 5speed. Currently No Engine or Trans. 171,xxx miles on the chassis and almost totally rust free!! Im still not sure what Im going to do with it yet. Part of me wants to put the 22Re from my runner into it and use it as MY DD.

The Beds not staying, He is taking it for his Reg cab or to sell. So im trying to decide on the type of flatbed that I might want to put on the back. Im thinking something functional for what I need. Haul engines and other crap during the week, and maybe convert to a canopy top for camping on the weekends.

Anyhow enough talk heres a few pics.

Im going to try and get a few more pics later today showing the rest of it.

Also if you are wondering, the core support was cut for the potential SBC swap. So im going to need a new front core support. Otherwise this thing is in GREAT shape.

Thanks for looking guys,

Even though ultimately it is your decision, I'm kind of going for keeping the 4Runner in tacked and getting another 22re. Somewhere along the lines keeping the enclosure like the first gen works out with the seating in the back. With what little i know about mechanics, the 22re was my second engine to tinker with way back the first being the Datsun B210 which was simple but a little to cramp to work with. The 22re seems easier to work with and simplest. The 22re has a long history, seem to be one of the longest (not sure) engine toyota used in any line of engines and besides the after market seems to think it is a good product to make parts for. other than that people call it bullet proof. of course there's the lack of Power and a few other thing, but how can you turn down reliability.

22re is a great engine. I have always preferred it over the 3.0.

I already have four 22re's including the one in my runner. But was considering after I pull it out to put my new build 22re in, taking the existing one out and going through it a little. Like timing kit, head gasket , oil pump, water pump,etc.. Then throwing it in the 88 pickup.

Or I even thought about putting the new engine in the truck and just sellin the runner.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet.
