The compressor is close but it doesn't hit. You can kinda see it in my pictures about the ac. The hose mounting plate was modified, it used to have a high pressure relief valve that I had to cut and relocate for it to fit. You can see I welded it on the high pressure line in the pictures. I'll see if I can find any better pictures for you.
I am loving the build otherwise. I have thought about the radiator, if my new fan combo doesn't work I'll be considering a different radiator, it's just tough because I just put a larger more capacity core in the current one and it wasn't cheap.
I was pleasantly surprised that the trail lights came out that good.

So just a couple follow up questions...
You used the 1uzfe compressor with the rest of the stock A/C system?
How far back did you move the transmission?
And the tach mod is just simply adjusting the electronics on the back of the factory tach?
Thanks build

For the AC, yes I used the 1uzfe compressor, and the rest of the AC system is stock Toyota pickup
The transmission moved back approximately 2.5" or so.
For the tach mod yes it was really that simple just adjusting the electronics on the back of the factory tach.

The power is way better than the 3.0. I have pulled trailers with it with both engines and I can say that with the 3.0 I would be in 4th gear mostly floored to hold 80mph. Now with the 1uz it feels like its idling in 5th gear, with a little bit of fourth when a hill comes around. Much improved. I am still working on electrical issues, so the power should increase once I figure out all the sensors.
Thanks, I was trying to make it look like it belonged in there as much as possible.

Excellent Build! I will probably have quite a few questions for you when I start on my swap. The engine is sitting in the garage begging me to swap it in, but I am in the middle of putting a turbo diesel in my suburban. One step at a time.
Rock on.
Rock on.

Let me know when you have the questions. I am still trying to figure out why my MPG is crap, but no engine codes!

That is a good question. By closed loop you mean I have no check engine light? If that is what you ask, then that is true, I have no check engine light, and no codes if you check it. The only things I had to "trick" the computer for were the EGR and the post O2 sensors. The auto trans not being there has never thrown a code. Having said all that, you are correct, I live in Michigan and there are no emission checks. Although if it is possible to be open loop and have no engine codes you have intrigued me as my fuel economy is not great and that would point me in a new direction.

Transmission rebuild with Dyna 5th gear
Here we go, I have done tons of research on this swap, I have read bits and pieces of it everywhere, but I have not been able to find anyone is the USA that has proven this to work. Apparently in Australia there have been a couple people who have got the newer 95+ year transmissions to swap out, but none of the pre 1994 transmissions. So I took a gamble at the pieces I could find and ordered some gears. As you can see in the pictures below it does work with the correct part numbers. Strangely when I called the dealerships in the states they told me those numbers were not good. So I went online to amayama, I was able to order the two part number:
3304625012 - this is the counter gear, the larger gear
3333625030 - this is the smaller main gear
The stock is something like 17% overdrive, with these new gears I should have 30% overdrive.
I am still putting it together so no results yet, but everything turns and shifts on the bench like it should. More updates to come.

Badass man. Should be a lot nicer when cruising

Yea I hope so, before at 80mph I was around 3600 Rpm, it that's kinda high for cruising. I just hope it will still tow a trailer in 5th. Also hoping for the fuel economy to get a little better, I'm around 13-15 now with mixed driving.

Ok the trans is in and I have driven 30 miles or so:
now RPS at 80 are at 2750, much improved! It sill seems to have plenty of power, it's not working hard at all at the lower RPM. It might struggle with trailers if going 70mph but who goes that slow anymore.
Some other notes on this swap:
I have read some people thing you can do this while the trans is under the truck. I would be super impressed if you could, as I needed a press to get the small main fifth gear off and the new one back on.
the counter gear came off with a normal puller so that one could be done under there.
Also to get the transmission adapter off you are breaking loose the bolts that also hold on the front trans cover, so if you accidently break that seal while under the truck, then you would have to drop it to seal it up again anyway.
I know its only been 30 miles, but this swap seems to be a no brainer for anyone who is doing a more powerful engine swap and keeping the R150 trans behind the engine. The engine isn't screaming on the e-way anymore, and who knows, I am hopeful that this gets my engine running temps down. Before on a hot day running the ac on the freeway I would be 205-215° F.

Thanks for pointing me back here JAR! I forgot I had read your thread before. You have sparked some new ideas for my 1UZ swap. This turned out to be a sweet build man, and thanks for posting information on the 5th gear! All the research I did used a R154 with the 5th gear from a R150 to get the 30% overdrive, but I am glad to see it is simpler than that now. How much did you pay for the Dyna 5th gear?

The counter gear was 232$ and the smaller top gear was 34$. A little pricy but it is seeming to pay off. Did around 400 miles this past weekend, one tank averaged 17.5 cruising at 77mph. The second tank cruising around 75mph averaged 18.6. Mpg. So those numbers are slightly better than the old 3.0 ever got. I will know soon what mixed City gets me.
