315/70/R17 with a BJ/LC lift - my rig's progress adventure
Well, I missed my 85 wheeling runner, so its time!
My 4runner's start:
31s and bone stock
I've had BJ spacers and Land Cruiser coils added
on board air
extended shocks
Aussie locker in the rear
full 2.25" ehxaust
OBX headers
oversized AFM mod
315/70 R17s
now its time for the real deal :lol
UPDATED::
all my pic links were broken.. here is the update on my truck:
Since I only wheel snow and I have a hard time with only 35s I want bigger. I want it to drive close to stock though.
37x12.50r16.5 goodyear MTs... 16.50x9.75 steel rims.
fender "fixed" with a really big sledge, a sawzall, and an angle grinder.
two washers to prevent too much uptravel at full lock. Now the tires don't rub even full stuff at full turn lock
extra cutting/smashing for the 37s in the rear. I added 1" bump stop spacers to keep tires from rubbing.
testing in the yard
16.5" wheels don't have safety beads so I welded some in using some steel rod.

For the bumper I will be using 5" and 4" channel. Same design as my 85 runner, with space for a winch. it was much more strong than an ARB style bumper...

with the amount of fender bashing I did, all I need is to space the bump stops about 1/4" - 3/8" to limit the uptravel a bit. They are very close, and I could probably get by without it if I didn't wheel it too hard. They only rub the front when the steering wheel is cranked, at full flex

just put in a small body lift and u wont rub on body lol. i dont like them either but it was cheap. doesnt even look bad with it on. i could easily fit 35s using stock rims or my 15x7 steelies with only a 3 inch body

all i'm saying is that if a tire would rub normally, like a 31 ro something, that same size will rub with bj spacers. you've gon a fair bit above that using 35's. it will rub; pounding the welds and rolling fenders wil not keep it from rubbing. crank the t-bars and that will add some stiffness to the suspension but won't keep the suspension from articulating as its designed to do.
good luck
good luck
I know BJ spacers do nothing for rubbing, they just help me keep a reasonable amount of travel, as I need to space the bump stops, thus limiting my uptravel so the tires don't rub. I won't rub anywhere but the frame on the rear and idler arm when I am done today. losing 3/4" uptravel to go from 33s to 35s is more than a worthy trade off. I wheel 85% snow, where tire size is what matters. I could keep it stock height and run the 35s, but I would end up with less than stock amount of travel, which would be kind of crappy. This way I still have a bit more travel than stock and big tires

got the front bumper most of the way done today. Just need to make a skid plate and it will be complete, till I get a winch. Tomorrow I'll finish the rear. Put in some bump stop spacers too.

I flexed the truck out fully after working on it tonight, and it clears except for the frame, which can be remedied with wheel spacers. I am a happy clam. If I wanted to go bigger, I'd have to body lift or something, but I am happy where it sits

I used 3/8" wheel spacers in the front, and took off the hub nubs. they fit then. I love the tires, they do really well in muck and snow. I ended up having to trim the front part of the rear fenders, where the plastic things go. Took about 1" or so off about 3/4 the way up the plastic part, the plastic and the metal under it. no rubbage, except frame rub
& idler anywhere on the truck now! wheel spacers should take care of that, but it's not hurting anything so far.
