Can you see it fitting without the body lift? I'm doing a SAS at the same time, and using an F body oil pan, so my bottom end will be good. Most of what I've read has been transmission fitment, in using a 4L60, which I am.

What can you tell me about flashing the ECM to run as a standalone?

I'm not totally sure it will work without the body lift. The mounts from advance adapters raise everything about 1.5 inches..that's the real reason for the body lift. If you wanted to build your own mounts then it wouldn't be a problem. You may even be able to run the truck intake then if you wanted.

As for flashing the ECM... the same people that built my harness did that for me. The computer originally for the engine was setup for drive by wire...I wanted cable throttle. It just so happens the reluctor on the crank in a 2005 (may be only year?) is the same as the older engines(24x compared to 58x for newer ones) so no need for a signal converter.

I've currently got a GTO front sump on my doner engine which I'm debating whether to modify
My trans crossmember is stock at the moment...my engine mounts came with a slotted plate that allowed everything to be moved back and keep the crossmember in the same spot.

From what I've read...modifying a used oil pan can be a be a bit iffy...i guess oil contaminating the weld?

I do have a diff drop installed but you are correct...absolutely no modifications to the sump.

Or is trans clearance the only issue in my case? As much as I'd like a manual I'd probably go with a 4L60E, but I'm curious how a T56 or even some sort of a 5 speed would fit.

This is actually something I've thought about myself.

I just so happen to have a brand new t56 magnum in the box...but that's for a future project.

I doubt you would need a body lift on a 2wd truck

sorry i can't be of much help

Nice work! I'm an LS engine freak! I've been wanting to do the same swap on my '93 4runner!

Here are a couple vids of my old racetruck...

Cheers for the info. Just out of curiosity how far did you drop the diff? Also I presume the 1.5" you have spaced the gearbox up is using the slotted adapter plate and spacer tubes?

Definately not keen to cut and shut a sump, a mate did one using a brand new item and it still cracked after a bit of use. I've ordered the same C6 sump as you have used and it looks as though it should have ample room from my measurements

Yes,that's correct. The slotted plate is about 3/8 thick the tubes are 1-1/8. I dropped the diff with a 1 inch body lift puck under 2 of its mounting points. I'm guessing this dropped somewhere in the range of 1/2 inch because the front mount stayed in the same place.

Also don't forget to pick up the matching dipstick, pickup and windage tray for that oil pan.

While I was in there I added a oil pickup girdle just for a little added insurance. Factory it uses one bolt to attach..the girdle wraps around the tube and uses 2 bolts...the holes are already there.

Not a whole lot of progress today due to a late start but at least my electric fan is mounted now. I was thinking about sending the radiator back to be cool to have brackets added but I think this should work just fine.

The fan is 16 inches just in case anybody wanted to know.

I plan on moving mine back as far as possible, since I'm not running and of the original drivetrain or crossmember, to get all the room up front I can

Many thanks, I'm trying my best to stick to just this one project until it's back on the road.

I have a tendency to veer off when I see something else I like.

Making some slight headway. I'm waiting for my new fuel pump to come in.

Looking good. That thermo looks like a better option than the derale item I've bought. Also just wondering if you have massaged the firewall at all?

A little bit on the passenger side (a spare junk engine was perfect for mock up). Just be sure to remove the a/c evaporator beforehand...or else you'll probably end up having to replace it. It will still fit just fine...just needs to be removed while you're massaging the firewall. If you look back a few posts i have pic showing where I had to beat it back.
