my 85' runner build "The Streak"
Just picked up this beauty (not really) a few months ago to build up into a wheeler/weekend driver.
Back story: The guy I bought it from was in the process of "restoring it" lol basically just tore a bunch of stuff apart and never did anything else. So I had to bolt the seats back down put the windshield wipers back on yada yada. Got it together threw on longer shackles and 1" block to keep the 33s from rubbing so bad and wheeled it
Started cutting my fenders and noticed my tires had broken bands in the sidewalls and we're cracking super bad
Before:
After:
Original plan was to weld the rear and wheel it like it is and stockpile parts for about a year and get my 38.5s under it...but instead of buying another set of 33s I decided to accelerate my plan lol.
The plan is 51"RUF and ford 57" out back, spool the rear axle and probably a spartan up front with 5.29s, ifs rear and ifs hubs up front with tacoma rotors and I'll run that till I break something with my 38.5 Maddogs lol
ordered:
Sky's high clearance hanger
Sky's boomerang shackles
Sky's 63" leaf mounts
Sky's axle truss
TG High steer kit
TG knuckle rebuild kit with trail safe knuckle wipers
Marlins trail safe inner axle seals
Marlins knuckle ball gussets
Low range offroad diff armor
Tear down!:
Got the axle all washed:
Got all the brackets cut off the frame:
Got the axle tore down and brackets cut off:
All wire wheeled up and Clean
PARTS!!
Annnnd my stopping point for today:

Got a little bit of work done, it slowed down cause I had to go out of town and I also noticed my front pinion bearing was fubar. .
So, new 5.29s and lock rite is on its way
All armored up
Getting painted
all done till gears arrive
don't mind my storage area haha..
So just to keep track for myself I'm gonna make a list of things to get
List to get it wheeling
Tacoma rotors(need to get new)
V6 IFS calipers(picked up new)
IFS steering box (got it)
IFS front hubs (done)
IFS rear axle (done, needs rebuild )
3rd Gen 51" rear springs( grabbed a set of 47" springs
90's f-150 2wd rear springs(grabbed 97+ 2wd springs 58")
90's f-250 shock towers (got 4)
2"x2"+ 2.5x2.5 square tube (d-shaft)
bump stops(have the front set)
2 front brake lines off 90-96 300zx or Napa P/N#38688 (done)
12 Wheel studs P/N #610-463 (done)
Power steering pump&brackets/resi
Power steering lines (done, now I need different crank pully 😑

Got a little work done, been goin slow, out of town/ not being able to get junkyard parts 😡 anybody know of any spots in florida?
Anyhow got my steering box mounted...I never get any in the process haha, usually cause it's a PITA!
And got bored and stayed up till 3am putting my knuckles back together and replacing seals
should be getting my gears and lockrite installed within the week, I might switch it up to 48" rears...I can't make up my mind....and all I need to get her rolling again is frikken junkyard parts! Gahh

FINALLY!!! I finally got a solid weekend to work on the ole girl and had most of the parts I needed to get her back on all fours..
Got the axle mounted up and steering on
I got my IFS hubs on and my V6 calipers tapped
Got my hubs ground down to accept the Tacoma rotors
Clearance with the rotor and caliper assembled
All assembled with new 300zx lines
Clearance with the rim, no grinding needed whoop!
Back on all fours, definitely digging the stance
Same mandatory poser pics lol
still waiting on shock mounts to arrive and need to get the ifs housing I have rebuilt... ford springs coming next weekend hopefully 😅

Looks good. One question tho. Why is your steering box rotated down that much? Do you have plans to run a flat pitman arm? it seems like you would have clearance issues when you stuff the driver side front.

Bump530, I couldn't move it any further forward without completely cutting out my core support so I angled it slightly to get another 1" or so, seems to be okay on clearance so far but if it starts hitting I'll go to a flat pitman, and thanks guys I can't wait to get the rear wrapped up and take her out for a shakedown

Got a tiny bit more work done, got my shocks mounted (didn't get that many pictures) but got to take it out finally and sweet Jesus I need to get the rear done already
About maxed out, no clearance issues with shocks or brake lineslines
Other side stuffed
Got a slight contact issue withe the steering drag link, it barely touches so I'll order a flat pitman and swap it later
Overall I'm pretty happy with it, I might end up pulling a leaf and swapping it with an add-a-leaf. It seems to sag to the pass side, but we'll see after a few wheeling trips and the rear is done...and oh my god does it stop, super glad I went ahead and did the brake upgrade while it was apart!
