Fruitstripe's 1985 4runner build

Well here is my first build thread. Bought this runner from a guy near chicago about 2 years ago. Now its time to get this thing back on the road again. Striped the rear down wire wheeled the surface rust and old paint off and painted the frame with some paint we make at my work. Fired up the little compressor and the hvlp gun. Now i am installing the the procomp lift kit and then hunt down some new wheels and tires.

When i got the truck it had these crappy side pannels.

Reworked them and added some rear speakers.

traded the rear seat delete for two buckets and rear seats.

Start of the paint

Last night got a wild hair up my butt and decided to install the driver side rear spring. I got some buddies coming over tommoro to give me a hand. hope to have it out on for wheels by the end of the month.

here is a picture of my old 86 extra cab.

Great looking Runner. I have never seen the rear seat delete for the 1st gens before. That would be pretty handy for hauling stuff.

What procomp lift did you go with? How many inches. Does it require any hanger or shackle relocation?

That ex cab truck is really nice.

Best photo i have of the rear seat delete. it would be nice but i drive a 2010 tundra crew max everyday so it does the cargo hauling for us.

Its a procomp 4 inch kit with all new leaf springs. no need to move shackels.
Yeah i loved my 86 but with our family expanding i wanted to beable to take the kids out on the trail.

Thats really interesting. I wouldnt mind getting my hands on one of those deletes just in case. I hear you on hauling the kiddos around. I cant wait till my boys are old enough to go out on the trails with us.

Put in some time on the truck the last few days.

Front springs are in and front end has been repainted. Waitting on toyota to get me the replacement spring pins. Once i get those i can get the runner back on all 4 tires. next i need to order tires. Stuck between the BFG KM2's and the Goodyear MTR's. anybody got any opinions on these tires. hope to have it driving around by next weekend.

Looking great man!!

That's a tough call on the tires. I have not owned either of those but like them both. I like the look of the km2's more but would imagine that the mtr's might be better in other areas like ice and snow. Really a tough call two great tires!!

that looks great and those TIRES look really nice!! ....what are they?

I really dig the bedliner treatment on the fender and rocker trim - seen that once on a white 1st gen 4runner and always have liked the look.

You got a 4" kit from pro comp? The truck looks amazing, but I can only see the last few photos...getting photobucket errors on the rest of your first few pages of pics...is anyone else seeing that too? I want to see the progress

Keep the photos coming...what's up next?? Any motor mods for those huge meats you justs put on?

Not a fan of the proposed paint AT ALL. To each his own. I do like how you found a way to store the hardtop.

Finally got the truck back from the shop that was making my rear bumper. So got back working on it tonight. Removed the stock doors seats and all the lower interior trim. now i need to clean and prep the floor to paint it with nonskid paint we make at work. hope to paint the bumper and tube doors this weekend as well.
