1984 sr5 4runner
I bought my 4runner about 2 years ago from one of my friend's mechanic's neighbor. It had been sitting for years without doors and wheels on cinder blocks, but the body was surprisingly mostly straight and rust free as well as the interior being mostly complete. As for the drive-train it had no brakes and knocked like hell due to a spun rod bearing.
Somebody had done an EFI conversion to the 4runner at some point but used an automatic wiring harness and left it as a mess. So using a totaled 89 4runner parts truck, I pulled the motor out and freshened and cleaned it up with new gaskets and paint and eventually put it in the 84.
After installing the engine I realized what a mess the wiring harness was, so I pulled out the entire engine and dash harness out of the 89 and put it in the 84. After getting the engine installed I decided to fix/ upgrade the braking system and rebuild the front knuckles. I bought land cruiser discs and used the ifs calipers off the 89 as well as the master cylinder and brake booster. I ordered the knuckle kit from marlin crawler and tore apart the front end and cleaned everything up.

Looks like a nice project! I like how you painted the valve cover, looks good!
For your pics, you might try copying and pasting your photobucket IMG code right into your post, then your pics will show up without having to click on the link.
Cool build, look forward to seeing some more!

My 86 had doors and no front end and yours is quite similar to the build I had to do on mine. With some time and effort you can get it going. Looks like you have made some great progress already. When doing a project like this is a good time to get all of the bugs worked out and go thru each system while you have it this far down. Looking forward to your build. Welcome to Yotatech.

Thanks Terry, I have read through most of your build threads and learned quite a bit. So far I have gone through the entire brake and fuel systems but I'm having a few electrical issues. Here is a little newer picture of it but I've realized that I have not taken any recent pictures of it.
The rear end had quite a bit of sag in it, so the previous owner decided it would be a good idea to put 2" blocks in the rear springs to fix it. It also had an Ifs rear end installed so I decided to swap the rear end out of the 89 and put it in the 84. I really wish I had a straight axle rear end but the Ifs is better then nothing.

A lot of people prefer the ifs rear end for the added width and stability. Since you've already upgraded your front brakes with LC rotors and ifs calipers, you could swap in the ifs wheel hubs, the offset is different than the straight axel wheel hubs, then the front axel will be the same width as the ifs rear without running wheel spacers.

Yeah that is what I was trying to say. I had already bought the shoes and wheel cylinders to put in the straight axle style rear end and then discovered it had been replaced. I also prefer the look of the narrower axles where the wheels are tucked up in the wheel wells. I don't plan on doing any serious abusive off-roading so the straight axle rear end would be plenty strong enough.

but.. but... the 89 rear axle IS an IFS width axle (it came out of an IFS truck). So you swapped an IFS width axle, with an IFS width axle?

Sorry I believe I have confused you lol. The Rear end in the 89 was in better condition then the rear end in the 84 and I needed to install the leaf springs so I just swapped the entire rear axles to make it easier. I know I swapped an ifs for an ifs and was just trying to say that I would have rather had the straight axle rear end instead of the ifs.

Today I decided to get some better pictures and clean up the 4runner. The blue hood and doors are off of a 2wd 85 cab I got and the fenders and grill are off an 84 sr5 truck cab.
And here is one of the interior. I have not fully put it back together since installing the wiring harness and I do have the carpet and the orignal door panels and power window regulaters.
This is whats left of the 89 as well as the 87 parts 4runner I got when I bought the 84
