oooo cool .. my 2nd car was a /75 TE37 .. that I "built " , made a set of rear window loovers in metal shop for my end of year exam , it was a coupe , and they were only avaliable for the liftbacks , + I even "frenched" a power antenna into the 1/4 .. loved that car ..

I'm pretty excited about this one, i need to locate a new set of coil springs for the front. The PO cut them so low that the tires rub on the fenders. It can roll around, but its not streetable as is. I was actually looking for a datsun 510, but I ran across the ad for this TE27 and couldn't pass it up. Too cool. Besides, the IRS on 510s is so simple that its not really an improvement over the LRA and the TE27 definitely wins for style in my opinion.

So, I have been thinking about building a rear bumper for a while now. I want it to tuck up against the rear of the truck tightly though. I don't like having brackets that wrap around under the bed.
I'm considering cutting along these lines and building a bumper that tucks relatively closely to the body.
Curious what people think about that.
The only part I am not sure about is what to do with the license plate. I could build the bumper to fit the license plate and tuck the plate as far up as it will go, then I don't have to move the lights or anything. Or I could mount it to the tail gate.

Your truck is looking sweet, I really like the looks of those wheels! I like your idea for the rear bumper, that should keep it tucked up out of the way,... what kind of bumper are you thinking about building, a tube bumper, or out of steel plate?

Plate for sure, I don't have the funds for a bender currently. I also prefer the look of plate. I'd probably only use 1/8th with 1/4 tie ins to the frame. I want it to have some give if I get rear ended. I'd rather have the bumper bend than my frame.

You know, I don't think i snapped any photos. I just measured back from the hole about an inch quarter, center punched it and drilled with a hand drill.

I also marked and drilled the bump stops on top of the spring.

I love the old car. kind of like the retro rocket in Fast and Furious 6.

I think you are on the right track for the bumper. Only pain about putting the plate on the tailgate is running the wiring for the license plate light and running it with the tailgate down if you ever need to go that route...

Thinking about doing a hybrid of the two. Having an inclusion for the plates in the bumper, but not dipping the clearance down much for it. If I drag ass, I'll have to mallet the plates flat again. Not keen on cutting up my tailgate and I don't want to just slap a plate on it without setting it in and hiding the lights.

PS I got the last piece of metal I needed today, so hopefully bumper will be done by the end of this week. Just need to settle on a finalized design. I did some sketches for what I have in my head, but need some cardboard so I can build a prototype and see if I actually like it.

Got a little done today, I cut the bed and mounted my new grille emblem.
I got some progress on the bumper, but I'll share that when it starts coming together.

TEQ Emblem

Thanks, I like these wheels a lot. I've got 2 more in the garage for when I can afford some full size spares.

Pretty happy with the cut.

I also have 1 as a spare, just no tire on it right now.... Gonna wait until I do the lift and all that.

That TEQ badge is AWESOME! Too bad it's so expensive or i'd buy one.

Eh maybe I still will...

That's kind of how I felt about it, "awesome.... expensive... aw, screw it, I gotta have it."

I was searching for a TEQ emblem to stick in my MOMO steering wheel horn button, but all the ones I found were no longer for sale. In my hours of googling I found these and I just had to have it. I will be PISSED if someone steals it, but the quality is excellent. Has some real weight to it, not cheap and plastic.
