fRaNkEnToY 81/83' Build up

It is the LSPV (Load sensing proportioning valve). It senses the load in the bed of the truck according to the height of the frame relative to the rear axle via the rod running to the rear axle and adjusts the brake pressure to the rear brakes to provide better brake pressure relative to the load.

Okay. I researched the LSVP tonight, and found a bunch of threads on Marlin Crawler about it. I decided that I would eliminate it, and removed it. I drove it for a while up and down the street, stopping easy and stopping hard. No difference from what I could tell.

I made some progress last weekend. I decided that my two old Yota's have sat too long in my driveway and I needed to clear out some space. I went and picked up my skid steer and brought it back to my house in preparation for a swap. The night before I had disconnected everything under the hood and removed just about everything I could off my 81'
After I returned to my house with the Skid Steer I realized I had forgotten one of the crucial components of my lifting operation, a 4X6x8. I ran across town to my shop and picked up the next best thing, A 16"x2"x14' Glu Lam.
I Attached the cab to the lifting beam with 2" ratchet straps from the outside to inside of the front fenders, and to a spot near the rear cab mounts underneath.
A quick lift and the cab was off and on the ground.
I did not get any pictures of the 83' cab attached to the lifting beam, or going onto the frame (too busy and excited), but here is where I ended up after about 5 hours working solo.
As for now I just wanted to get the cab on, and get the other one out of the way. there is still much more work to be done but I do feel a little better about it now. This truck is very easy to take apart and put back together I think (the skid steer helps). I plan to take it apart again to paint it, but that will be a home made paint job (thinking of plasti dip).
I was able to get the 81' grille on the 83' cab but I don't have a picture of it. So as for now this is how she sits.

What is the deal with the wires coming from the ignition coil. There are two wires (white and red) and those two are wrapped with another stranded wire:

Yes they go to the distributor but why are there two coated wires (white, red) and then those are wrapped with another stranded wire. Is there something I need to do with that stranded wire?

I am also lost on my alternator. On my 81 the alt. was connected to the voltage regulator with a plug. On the 83 cab there are no wires with a plug for the alt. to connect to from the voltage regulator.

Well. I was able to get the 83' cab to come alive after who knows how many years. I was able to get the blower motor to run, head lights, dash lights , blinkers, wipers and gauges. However, I am missing something for the ignition coil to the alternator. This is where I am stuck. I have the distributor wires hooked up but I am missing something for the ignition coil. I need to get power from somewhere but I don't know where.
I have been reading the diagrams in the Haynes but I can't figure it out.

If you haven't already, I would suggest downloading the '83 FSM from here.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...wnload-261385/
Then I would trace the wiring using the FSM and see what you come up with. My truck is all apart with parts scattered in storage, so not able to go out and look, to help answer questions. I do have a wiring diagram for an '81 and the FSM. Fromwhat I can tell, the only thing common to the igniter and alternator, is the "Eng" fuse and Ignition switch, which is all powered from a fuse link to the battery. Hope that helps a little

I can not get this thing to run.
Can not even get anything. I still have all the lights, bells, and buzzers in the cab, but I can not get it to try to crank.
I believe I have all the wires for the ignition--battery--starter--Alt.--Ign. coil.
The starter doesn't even try to go?? I bought new cables to hook it all up, I am pretty sure everything is grounded. I have dug through a bunch of diagrams and web pages but I still have nothing!! getting frustrated.
What other wires could I possibly need from the key to get this thing to fire off? Bad relays? Where would they be? I have crawled all over and under this thing to figure it out.
Help me...

If you have a good battery, do a continuity check with a DVM between the starter ( maybe a black/white wire)and ignition switch "st" position. Also check the fuse links at the battery for deformation or broken. Run a continuity test between the fuse link at the battery that maybe green to ignition switch (maybe a Black/red wire). With all the lights and other stuff working, It appears to be getting power to the fuse block, but still do a continuity check on the fuse to make sure it's good, then from engine fuse to the ignition switch.
Just a few suggestions for troubleshooting the ignition system

I finally figured out the starter. I can now get the engine to turn over. I still have a jumper from the starter. I need to figure out the wiring for sure back to the switch. I wires up the fuel pump and ended up flooding the carb pretty good, I fixed that for now. I still need to wire the Alternator in. That should connect directly to the battery, correct? It sounds like it wants to go, but I am afraid that I'm not getting spark from the ignitor and coil. How can I check this?
Also, the ignition coil gets pretty hot when I try to start the truck. Is this normal? I have it grounded to the truck and wire tapped into the ignition wiring in the dash.

I just thought of something. My dizzy might be out of sync. I need to get the #1 on the TDC and make sure the distributor is in sync. I remember turning the motor (fan) while the ignition coil wire was disconnected. That would mess up the firing order correct?

As long as the distributor was seated and turning while you turned the engine over by hand, you should be ok.
But its a good idea to check timing and firing order and TDC anyway, especially with a motor that hasn't run in a long time. Who knows what the previous owners did.

The truck was running before I did the swap. It may have sat for a few weeks before but last time I drove it, it cranked right up.
I have traced all my wires and diagrams and ran new wires where needed. The ignition coil and igniter are the only things I can't figure out. I am unsure if I'm getting spark to the plugs. I am going to get a tester to see if that is the problem. I may try to do a GM bypass if I can't figure this out.
