Hello Everyone,

Well, it’s finally coming together. So I figure I’d post some pics and info about my rig. Also, A big “Thank You” to many that have helped with advice as I dredged through the process, having my engine explode , then my transmission go bad and finally give up and got replaced forcing me to pull the engine and trans as a unit. Wow that was a learning experience. I also installed all new springs, shocks, bushings etc, where I learned about vibrations due to castor angle. All in all, I’ve come to know this truck very well, inside and out, and will likely never sell it. It’s got to much of my time and energy, and a lot of bonding time –lol.


Here is when I pulled the engine for the second time in less than a month.

Completely de-smogged during the process too.


So, here it is. My 1982 4x4 pickup with a rebuilt 22R, headers and Webber 32/36 carb, headers to a custom exhaust (not finished), rebuilt L52 transmission, 4” spring set, and shocks, and some customization to accommodate the radio sets. It’s a fun vehicle that I am still working on. Just ordered a winch, and will be doing more mods to enable it to survive a catastrophic event (zombies etc.). A daily driven toy that provides a wealth of entertainment.

Now it’s been running good for a few thousand miles – YaY!

The antenna array:
From Left to Right: (off picture) is a 102" whip for the CB, and the CD/radio player's 58" FM antenna. On picture is a 10 Meter, a 6 meter, the UHF/VHF antenna, and the large one to the right is a 80-12 meter screwdriver antenna. The slanted "V" is connected to ground and a radial for the body.

From left to right: Icom 706MkIIG HAM Radio (160-10 meters +6 Meters and UFH/VHF), Uniden 980SSB Single Sideband capable CB Radio, and a CD player for some tunes. The icom was a successful fixer-upper that now has a few mods to make it MARS/CAP capable, plus the cooling fan mod to keep it's temps down. - It's a great communication package. I made the switch board and mounting assembly from scratch.


Not going to get in there easily, Yes the regular locks too, and it now has a pager/alarm to boot.


So anyways. Thought you all might enjoy a peek at what I been working on this whole time. There is more to do: Gas cans, Tool mounts (shovel etc.), 9,500 lbs winch has been ordered already. It will eventually be painted olive-drab green with black details. I’ll try to post some pics from time to time as I do innovative stuff with her, until then, enjoy.

Looks good! Lots of character, kind of like my trucks - in fact even more so. I've got one I intend to paint, I am also thinking military olive , or desert tan, with black rims etc.

Uggghhh padlock really? Looks like I could remove a few Phillips screws and get in pretty easily.

Nope, you cant... Not without stabilizing the locknuts from behind, they will loosen a touch and spin. At somepoint they will get a tack weld as well. You'd need a sawzall or a very large crow-bar. By then, I'm probably bearing down on the poor sap with a vengful hand (and "other" equipment).
- Also, point of the rig is not to be a "pretty" truck, it's to be a catastrophy ready mobile command post, go anywhere and communicate, provide light protection (that part is not implimented yet).

Haha looking good but like others the padlock reminds me of the roadkill rotsun, a ''that will do'' thing, but it's much easier to enter by the rear window I think. Appart from that it's looking really good it must drive great after all that work.

I moved this thread to the Pre-84 Build Up section as it fits more appropriately there in lieu of the tech section.
