1986yota4x4's 1981 4x4 build

finally back in the yota game guys! been looking for a 81 with the 22r and 5 speed for years! got a great deal on this one, paid $1300 and came with a extra 4spd, got a little rust in the bed and needs some help with the interior but i really like this pickup, put my stereo system in it already. supposofly has a detroit truetrac in the rear but i dont think it actually does. does anyone know what the hole right next to the cigarette lighter is for? and im posting a pic of my current line up, the nissan was my driver after i sold my 4runner and rolled it 6 times on june 13th on my way to work. bronco i bought 3 days before i found this toyota and the bronco is now for sale haha.

Glad you found another yota, that's a nice clean looking truck! That sucks about your Nissan, glad you weren't seriously injured though! What's your plans for this one?

thanks ed, i was lucky to walk away with cracked ribs, fractured elbow, and a concussion. the plans for this one are to leave it mostly stock, build up a hot 22r for it, eventually a small lift and 33's and regear it. for right now im just going to restore the interior back to stock and leave the outside as is. got a line on a factory power steering box so im gonna convert it soon

Looks real clean, a lot cleaner than my 87 anyway. What are you gonna do buly way of a hotter engine? I got mine bored.30 over with the head decked 15 thou and a Weber. Runs good with lots of power. But since you have the older pre 85 block you might wanna look into building a hybrid 20/22. Stroke, bore, decked head, oversize valves and a cam.

Yes! Curtis is back in a Toyota! Too bad about rolling that Nissan. I thought that was a cool looking little truck. Glad you're ok, though. For $1300, you got a great deal. Don't sell or wreck this one

I know your first blue truck was for sale again after you sold it. Have you heard where it ended up or what condition it's in?

guy needed the money i guess, pretty cool guy he said if i ever wnted to sell it to let him know first, he owned it for 10 years. and i loved that little nissan, really bummed me out wrecking it, just had it looking really good too :/ and shattered my aluminum directionals that were on my blue toy in the wreck , and as for the blue toy i tracked down and talked to the guy that owned it a couple months ago and he was trying to sell it, but at the time i didnt have the funds, tryed again after i rolled my nissan and couldnt get ahold of him, i have a couple pics that the guy from a few months back sent me if you wanna see them.

started stripping the dash tonight, what a pain!!! fiberglass, epoxy, resin, silicone, just a pain to strip, dash is pretty cracked underneath, gonna probly cover it in either fiberglass, or maybe camo duct tape till i find a good replacement, we shall see what happens, got about half the dash stripped

I'd look into buying a new dash for it. Is the 2wd truck dash the same? I feel like you could get one out of a junkyard pretty cheap.
