Talking It Drives!!

So I drove it yesterday!! Got the brakes all finished and shock hoops and mounts all mocked up. Then went behind safeway to flex it out and take some final measurements to double check everything. Everything seems to be where its supposed to be, so I just need to finish welding that shock stuff and tie up any other loose ends...

Here is one pic (cellphone)

Will have more pics up this week as most of it should be finished...

Yup only place i got less than a mile away

Anyways, I washed it today and took some better pics,

The rear does sit a bit lower than the front (about 3/4"), so I'll probably end up just putting some longer shackles back there. But I'm gonn await on that to see how everything settles, and after bumpers and what not are installed... (I already want 35's )

So now I just have to finish welding some shock stuff and the steering stabilizer. Hopefully I can finish that up tomorrow

So I finished up the rear, shocks and brake lines mounted up, painted and purty! I also ended up putting 6" shackles in the rear and moved the axle back about an inch. Sits nicely now

(more pics soon)

I am thinking of just getting one made by Dave's Off Road Performance. Seems like a good deal, and a good quality product. Anyone ever used his stuff, particularly his ds? Or have any better, budget ideas (besides a square ds).

I am also thinking about maybe just doing TG or Marlins kit... I just wanna stay away from a square. What do you guys think about those kits?

im curious as to why you mounted the stabilizer in that direction.i mounted mine from the dr side.i thought that it would go along the natural travel of the draglink better this way.

very nice build !

Both are about the same price....both are auto (not ag splines) which is good...one is made in China and one is made in Japan...thats about all I know about em other than quality control issues I have heard about with the TG units. I believe this has been corrected though.....

So I finished everything up... finally! I ended up clearancing my ifs double cardan joint and made a square ds, all for about $20!!! After greasing it up I took it for a test drive and it made NO noise whatsoever. I even got it up to 50mph without any vibrations (none at 50 either). Needless to say, I am happy with how it turned out.

I was also able to take a run to hollister with some friends to test everything out! I love these flexy springs!!! Thanks TG!

good times...

I am planning this same swap 4in front spring 5in rear springs with a 6in shackle on a 90 22re 4runner. Is there any tips or tricks or if I had to do this again I would of (blank) type of advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I hear all kinds of measurments for the rear to place the wheels center of fender well(what did you end up doing and why) like John Gabriels 4Runner from Trail Gear said he mounted his rear shackel mount 6in in front of the end of the rear frame.

also pictures is greatly appreciated

Thank You in advance

Make sure your shackle angle is where you want it BEFORE welding and I did 6.5" from the back of the frame for my rear shackle hangers. Which turned out great for me! Especially using the 6" shackles.

Thanks guys for the comments!

a little update...

better pics of the MC rear bumper and CB antenna mount
(you can see on the drivers side where the bumper smashed into my tailgate... that's before I did the "recommended" weld )

and finally got the TG sliders welded up...

washed and purty... for now
