Finally got the transfer case apart. Looks like the thing kicked into low range and fried the bearings on the input shaft, no thrust bearings left

If I have to flat tow again I don't care how crappy the weather is I will crawl under and drop the driveshaft

hopefully get the PITA back on the road this monday or tuesday

slowest transmission replacement continues

So the slowest transmission replacement in history continues
Finally got the busted one out.
One bolt was kicking my butt, top right bolt, broke 2 sockets and one breaker bar on it...it is metric but I am pretty sure it wasn't stock:

also don't forget the one behind the pivot for the throw out beearing:

A guy at work loaned me his transmission jack, used a 2x12 to gain a little extra heighth:

frigging thing still did not want to pop off, hooked up a little come along, one click and the transmission popped right off:

can't believe that it was this big of a PITA to get out but finally out...
clutch plate looks pretty good, was gonna replace the clutch while i had the transmission out but it has been working fine:

so hopefully will get time this weekend to finish it up..between taking kids to the orthodontist and being sick I am anxious to have it back on the road.

Somebody on Pirate has some pics of my wheeling trip with Al from september:
These are from the top of Canopener at Brown's camp...I really need some tires that don't clog so easy

Camera MOunt

Not really anything special but was out X-mas shopping this weekend and found this little gadget that is pretty cool.
Flexible mini camera tripod:

Seems like it will work out for taking pics while wheeling:

Gets really tight around the rollbar and is pretty stable

i'm glad someone got some good shots of you heading up canopener.

i always forget how gooey the clay is up there on that trail. some TSL's would probably have been the ticket that day.

Lightbulb Note to Self

OK: posting this here as a reminder to myself (I always lose my list and figure this is gonna be here)
TO DO LIST
1)batteries for camera when wheeling
2)be sure to fill rear diff
3)bleed brakes
4) check throw out bearing before putting trans in
5) reattach second TC to main TC (fill with oil)
6) put in transmission

some of this crap seems obvious but don't wanna forget

yeah it was pretty gooey, but maybe lower pressure like you said would have helped...I will be using these for awhile unless I find some 37" Iroks really cheap...not holding my breath...I am glad too that someone had some pics. It was the Kid with the '89 X-cab SAS with 38's and beadlocks not sure if you remember him, he was hammering on it pretty good
