Other Makes Cars/Trucks Own a different car or truck other than a Toyota?

What was your first vehicle? Do you still have it?

Mine was a 1989 Dodge Omni America. It was purchased new by my Grampa for a commuter car, and came down to me in 1997 after he retired.
It was a grey/charcoal grey, ultra base ("America") model with 158K miles.
It had the fuel-injected 2.2L, 5 speed, ram-air heater, and radio delete. That was all.
I absolutely loved that little car and drove the hell out of it. I consistently got 40 MPG and I could take it through foot high snow drifts with no problems.
I sold it with over 200K miles (and needing a lil work...) for $500 the year I graduated high school in favor of a '94 Chevy Beretta GT, which turned out to be a big mistake.
The Beretta had been totaled and "fixed", and was plagued with issues until I totaled it. I've had a lot of different cars over the years, and the Omni still ranks as one of my favorites.

Mine was a Chevy Luv... never had a picture of it and my dad had it parted out when I left home. So sad to see it go (had a lot of great memories there) but that's life...

My first and second car both were killed by me in accidents. Thankfully it was only the cars and a tree one time that ended up dead. First car was a 92 Grand Prix second was a mid-nineties Taurus.

Older car I wish I still had was my 94 Subaru Loyale. Bought it with 160K for $750 needed a new clutch and no other major repairs until I sold it for $500 with 235K on it several years later. Drove it cross country 3 times. 4-wheel drive, not AWD. I miss that car.

My first vehicle was a red 1991 Ford F-150 Lariat given by my dad. I wish I took better care of it though, I don't have anymore. I hardly did any maintenance on it if it wasn't for my old man. I remember driving it from Palo Alto to San Francisco, and back. Fun times.

My first was a 1992 Volvo 740 wagon, bright red. Had a special compartment in the back which fit my bong perfectly. Then the car died in a fire. It must have been a bad electrical connection or fuel leak because it was contained to the front end. I had that car 4 months to the day and replaced it with a Subaru Legacy wagon before buying a Toyota

First car was a 73 VW Beetle, at least now that I'm old my dad claims it was mine. Beat up, ugly, and transaxle problems that chewed through clutches. I still wish I had it. After that, I've continued to go through many cars and trucks:

80 Mazda GLC, 94 Tempo (new), 80 Celica, 80 Celica (these two were identical, the engine gave out on the first at about 320k, the second had a bad trans so I swapped parts, and the license plate for a short time), 74 F-100, 76 Cherokee, 88 Tercel hatchback, 94 Taurus, 90 Corsica, 96 Beretta, 97 Lumina, 04 Sable, 88 Astro, 92 Astro, 94 Astro, 96 Astro, 04 Durango, 80 K5 Blazer, 96 Cadillac Deville, 90 Toyota Pickup, 06 Dakota Crew V8 6 speed manual, 14 Avenger, 83 Z28

Except the Dakota and the Avenger, as well as my 90 pickup, all have gone by the wayside over the years, but I still miss that bug.

My dad bought a 1987 Chevy s10 2.8 automatic for $30 and gave it to me. We painted it, and put a new bed on it. Nice pinstripes, everything. It got 200 miles on a full tank and not half a mile more. Sold it to a guy that drove it off a bridge and I bought a 89 Oldsmobile 88 to tow my friends in. That thing got over 500 miles to a full tank and rode like a Cadillac. It was swanky. Then me and my buddy wired up two 15s wrong and caught the trunk on fire. Lol ended up selling that and buying a 91 Nissan in pristine shape. Owned by a Nissan technician for 17 years. Then I got drunk and hit a mud hole in it doing 50mph. Yeah. I locked the engine up with mud. Whiskey and trucks don't mix kids!!! Lose your keys.

This is the best, I love reading about people's first cars/trucks.

My first car was a 91 Chrysler LeBaron. It was my Grandma's car, had been handed down through 3 uncles who beat the Hell out of it, and didn't get to me until it was well over 200k miles. It had been crashed several times, minor damage. The back seat wasn't even bolted down on one side, and the muffler was falling off. I paid a whopping $100 for it I think, with the money I made working in the kitchen at the local restaurant. It got amazing gas mileage though! I would put in $10 and could drive for 2 weeks, back when gas wasn't even over a dollar a gallon. I seriously babied that car so much, and it was the biggest beat up piece of crap. But it was mine. It didn't even have a CD player.
I remember shortly after I bought it I had driven to a Cheer Camp at my High School and one of the breakers blew, it was in the summer and it was the breaker that controlled the windows (automatic of course) and the blower! It was soooo hot, we had to drive a couple blocks and prop the doors open so we didn't roast. It used to Vapor Lock all the time too, so you couldn't go far in it without having to pull over and prop the hood. I had it for about 4 years until I was rear ended and the whole frame crumpled like a tin can. They totalled it, of course. But I still drove it! I just had to tie the trunk shut with some bailing twine, and not use the back door on the drivers side. Hahaha lots of memories!

After it finally died I bought an '86 VW Jetta, it was worse off than my poor LeBaron! But it got amazing gas mileage and I was commuting about 65 miles to work through the mountains so I needed it. I loved that car! it was a junker for sure, but it went wherever I needed to go. I finally traded that in after a couple of years for a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, when it died in the parking lot.

My first car was an 81 Datsun 210. 2 door, hatchback, 4 popper, 5 speed, rwd. Fun little car while it lasted (loooooong gone).

My best car (or truck, I should say) is my 77 F150 4x4 351 4 speed manual. Tough old gal. Every day you had to fill it up. Best starting winter vehicle i ever had (with a 2 barrel carb).

Worst car (another truck) was my 87 F150 4x4 straight six, 3 speed automatic. Not the truck's fault. Hillbillys thought they were smarter than it and hacked up the wiring harness... $2500 later, had the truck running top notch. 9.5mpg in town. Lasted about a month and it popped a head gasket. Sold it for $1000 (body was absolutely gorgeous).

Newest car (again, another truck) is my 94 Yota 4x4 22re 5 speed. Poor truck is suffering from lot-rot though. Needs a LOT of TLC.

Always been a Toyota guy, always will be.

The day I got it. 1988 pickup. Unfortunately it was stolen and totalled 8 months later. Sure loved that rig.

My first car

I purchased my first car a couple of months before my 16th birthday, it was a 68 GTO, with a 400 and a 4 speed. I gave a whopping $800 for it, and yes it was clean. I remember learning how to do burnouts to kill time before I got my license. Sold it to a buddy, and have no idea what happened to it after that.

Mine was an 83 Pontiac firebird with a blown up 2.8l v6.
Dad told me if I could make it run, I could have it.
So I yanked the 350 and th400 out of grandad's truck and made meself a v8 firebird.
Later I rebuilt the motor and trans to a 383 stroker, and had a strong shift kit and slightly higher stall torque converter. Needless to say, I wrecked it within a year, and bought a Honda.

We rebuilt the car, and sold it to some flamboyant black lady who had someone put pink racing stripes and 20" gold Dayton spokes on it.
I've since had a couple more Hondas, a couple dozen jeeps, and an array of other stuff including motorcycles.
I gave my first yota pickup to my uncle, and I just bought a 4runner, but I still have an aircooled vw beetle, a jeep wrangler, a moto guzzi, a honda cb350, and a 2014 jetta tdi.

I'm always on the lookout for cool yard ornaments to get running as well.

Rusted out 1976 Celica GT. Drove and thrashed it through high school then sold it for scrap. Got it airborne a few times. Took it off road a few times. Never changed oil in 2 years. Still ran strong, just everything else no longer worked.

1987 Supra Turbo for me! It was a rough having been through a half assed engine rebuild, but it put me down the turbo path. It's long gone. Now I'm between such adrenaline with an '86 pickup.

95 Subaru Impreza. Was originally my Dad's and was the car I learned to drive in. He got an '05 Nissan (way better gas mileage) and just parked the Subi for 2 years. He calls up one day telling me if I could start it I could have it. Yesss!

I once buried the speedo needle going through the pine barrens in NJ. I gave that car to my younger brother and it finally died just a few years back. I gave him my 2nd car too, a Focus which he's crashed a few times, but still going strong.

He's never getting my 4Runner!
